Do you trust our AD

Do you trust Angel Cabrera, a Spaniard, to hire a better AD than the one we have? I don't.

What does his ethnicity have to do with it? I don't think that any GT prez will make a good hire for athletics as all of them in my lifetime have given lip service to the importance of athletics but little help to the GTAA. Athletics is a nuisance for GT.

Better question: Do you trust Angel Cabrera, a Spaniard, to hire a better AD than the one we have? I don't.
You realize that his contribution to hiring the AD is going to be assembling a search committee, right?

The search committee for CGC included Mac Nease, Mark Teixeira, Al Trujillo, Nathan Rakitt and Reggie DesRoche among others (unfortunately, others included questionable appointments like Steve Swant and Lynn Durham). Bud didn't make the selection.

Edit: And FWIW, Cabrera has been an avid GT football fan since his days as a student. He's probably more plugged into our sports scene than any president we've had.

Basically every sport on campus other than football is in pretty solid shape when compared to how they’ve done historically.

I’m honestly not sure what T-Stan could realistically do to make us happy with the next football hire the way the landscape is shaping up. We can’t compete with the money that’s being thrown around. The only logical thing to do would be to run an unorthodox system and half the fanbase has already proclaimed that they’re okay winning fewer games as long as it’s from shotgun.

I like T-Stan and don’t think anybody else could play the hand he’s been dealt much better than he has.

Stan is doing a good job. Here's hoping that we win some games in football next year as I think Stan gets Tech and generally has been making good decisions.

It depends on factors that few of us will know about. I have to think if the season is going down the tubes early TStan's job will depend on raising money for a buyout and a new coach. It seems he's very well respected in the industry and he'd be able to assemble a nice list of coaching candidates. I've always wondered if CGC was really his call or if he was forced on TStan by others (boosters) who had a relationship with Collins.

Based upon what? If this were true, he wouldn't have given a financially crippling contract to Collins, who was largely unproven as a head coach.

Basketball hasn't done anything other than a 5 week run last February/March. That's great that the non-revenue sports are doing well, but the football program is hemorrhaging. Maybe TDope should have convinced the big money to pony up for coordinators when it was obvious after season 1 that Geoff is quite green as a head coach.

Not really. The loan stuff and leaving Oregon State was pretty strange, but other than that I thought he’d done a pretty solid job. He clearly likes baseball Too which is trending better,

But this football season made me re-examine what I think of his whole tenure, and it seems like he’s been pretty slow to act or bad on all football stuff. The 12th game in 2017, the 2018 Quick Lane bowl political maneuvering, not showing Johnson any appreciation on the way out, letting Geoff alienate the fans and the previous decade worth of players, gifting an away game back to UCF for next year, promising to raise spending in football yet going into the discount bin for Collins first staff, and so forth.

I was not a fan when we hired TStan, but I think he has done an outstanding job. He hired Nell, he completely changed the course of our baseball program by bringing in new assistants, he stood by Josh when things were bad (though we made need to tweak recruiting) and he had the courage to gently encourage CPJ to move on. Golf, Tennis and Volleyball are also doing well.

He is now revamping CGC’s staff. I think we are moving in a very positive direction and in a couple of years will be one of the better programs in the ACC and possibly a top 25 team.
I don't believe he encouraged CPJ. In fact I believe he hated to see him go. Are you just guessing on that?

I don't hate TS, some good and some bad. Collins hire looks weak but other ADs have made bad coaching hires i.e. Homer Rice and then made a good one. Somewhat disappointed how bad attendance at the games are right now and given that is his meat and potatoes goal along with fund raising, not good. I do agree though it's a tough job he has at GT. It's an academic school with some hoping for big scores in sports and others who could give a d***.

What non-3O coach was coming to Tech without a long(er) contract? Name one. He gave Geoff essentially 4 years to prove himself, which is not unheard of, before a buyout became something we could afford.

And if the contract is so financially crippling, why are we bottom tier in coach pay from the head coach on down? And maybe he did ask the big money to pony up for coordinators, but they didn't. How do you know these things?

I'm going to go ahead and apologize for not contributing to the misery on this board that has seem to become the norm.

We finished 5th in the ACC in 2020 and 4th in 2021 followed by a god damn ACC Title. Don’t just make up öööö to fit your narrative.

Baseball is positioned to become a factory with the new facilities and two elite batting/pitching coaches.

Women’s BB is relevant for the first time in history.

Volleyball is relevant for the first time in history.

Golf is a perennial powerhouse.

It’s actually fairly remarkable the shape of the AA outside of football. And I 100% understand that football dwarfs the rest in terms of importance. But I also don’t want to fire T-Stan just to bring in a new guy who is still gonna be hamstrung financially for football and might rock the boat with the success we’re having elsewhere.
