Dontae Aycock Highlight Video - Senior Yr

Something quite interesting to note is the number of posters on this topic who recognize the "fit" DA is for CPJ's offense.

This sure wouldn't have been the case before we got our "education" on the option this season!

Sims has some CRAZY statistics:

"Sims is in the group of finalists after passing for 2,000-plus yards, rushing for 1,400 yards and accounting for 63 touchdowns."

Yep....I love David Sims. He and Dontae are our top two recruits.

This kid is amazing! I hope we get him! Redshirt him, and he'll be a redshirt sophmore when nesbitt leaves. Giving him three years with the offense. Just my idea

The fake pitch at the 4:50 mark is a jock dropper. Also, the sidearm pass at the 6:33 mark isn't bad either.

In addition to his obvious running skills, take note of how fast he finds an open receiver and gets the ball in the air. He also knows when to throw a bullet and when to throw a rainbow.

This young man looks good.

His mesh reads from under center look more natural than Nesbitt's do.

Even after discounting the "HS highlight" film factor, this kid as a blend of Hamilton and Dwyer, isn't likely to leave the field once he gets in a game.

He's a much better passer than I expected, but as a college QB he'll still have to learn to check off multiple receivers. In the HS film he seems to only be watching the guy who's going deep and if that guy's covered, he runs (which isn't a bad thing with Dontae).

It'll be great next year to have two great receivers, Bebe and Hill, who can go up and get the ball.

IMO, our offense--more than most offenses--requires having capable back ups with little drop off from the starter. All QBs get hurt, and one can debate whether triple option QBs are more likely to get hurt than in other systems. But that is NOT my point.

Most teams, if they have a decent running game, can bring in the back up and hand the ball off to take the pressure off their back up. In GT's offense, if the starter goes down, the back up can't simply just "hand the ball off"--they have to run the triple option, make the right reads, and not fumble the ball on the mesh or the pitch. If they can't, the offense can't run OR pass.

Case-in-point: We saw how valuable Jaybo was last year with his ability to make reads when Nesbitt was out. Then Jaybo got hurt and we almost lost to Gardner Webb! Similarly, Jaybo came in against UGA when Josh got a stinger, and helped get a key first down.

If we have 2 or 3 injuries to QBs, we need to still have a guy who can come in and run the triple well enough to win. We could easily see a season where Nesbitt, Aycock, Shaw, Sims, & Luallen all get meaningful minutes.

One other thought.

Increasingly we see teams in college football bring in "specialist" QBs. Guys who mostly run, or mostly pass, but are capable of doing their "non-specialty" well enough to surprise a defense for a big play.

Might we see a situation where better passers play more in hurry-up/run-and-shoot situations, and QBs who run better play more in situations where we want to run the ball? My guess is it just depends on what the personel earns the right to do by what they show in practice.

Good coaches find a way to maximize talent, and PJ is a good coach. When defenses pick up on this and overplay either the run or pass depending on which QB is in there, PJ can make them pay if QBs are well-rounded enough to make plays in their "weaker" area.

Of course a Joe Ham-type who does both equally well would stay on the field.....

If we have 3 injured QB's no one will expect us to do well. Also, those five QB's won't get playing time at least next season. No reason to waste freshmen year of eligibility being 4th or 5th string.

Agreed, I think you'd only see a rs come off if there was a big rash of injuries that forces PJ's hand.

I agree expectations would be lowered, but PJ's expectations and desire to win would not.

Last year we got down to Booker, and it almost cost us a loss. Good teams have depth, both for injuries, and so they can reload instead of rebuild.

Yeah but even the best teams don't have 3 deep in all positions. Don't forget PJ didn't really get a chance to recruit and Booker was what we had. Won't be likely to happen again in that way. Also, part of reloading is the rs thing. If you don't then your constantly training new players (aka rebuilding). So if we have to take a 1 year depth hit so graduation doesn't leave us bare then I'll take it.

Unless it's the O line, no more of those depth problems please sir.

Next year we will most certainly use a freshman as quarterback. Count on it. Booker is a bad example at 3rd/4th string because he was not an option quarterback at all.

Next year, we play three and Dykes will be a valuable 4th ready to go. Personally I think Tevin is moving, so one of the freshman are playing or at least preparing to be playing.

I agree...I think whoever is the best between the true freshmen will be a 3rd string redshirt. Meaning they will keep the redshirt on if we avoid injuries, but if Josh or Jaybo misses a game the redshirt gets pulled....unless its November or later, then it will be Dykes.

Of course, I'm sure you'll agree that if any of the freshman beat out Josh or Jaybo, then they'll move right on up.
