Jordan Mason Update

Look, PS is a nice start, if it comes to that. The money isn't great, but I've seen a lot of undrafted guys go from there to the 53 man roster and NFL success. And if you make the 53 man roster, even the NFL minimum is $705K - which doesn't suck. Adam Thielen started as an UDFA. and he's made more than $50 million. But he is an exception, of course.

E.g.: Tyler Huntley of the Ravens is on the last of his three year UDFA standard contract, and he will have made $2.3 million. And presuming they want to keep him next year, or someone else wants him, he then becomes a restricted free agent and he stands to make a few million more after that. Not bad at all.

Hopefully it will work out something like that for Jordan.

$207K for 18 weeks on an entry level position straight from college doesn't suck.
No, it doesn't suck. But it sounds better than it is. Zero job security. Could literally be forced to move across the country at any moment with zero notice. And it's entrty level to a field where the average career is less than five years and the skills don't transfer to anything else. Not exactly like starting on the ground floor at Morgan Stanley. Plus, you have higher than average expenses, and your agent will take their cut. 18 weeks of game checks, but you have OTAs in May/June, training camp starts in July, then the exhibition games, and the actual season runs to January. So it's not like you can easily take another full time job the other 34 weeks.

Again, it's good - not great. Especially for someone having professional athlete dreams.

Practice squad RB is not a bad place to land. RBs are a position group that's more likely to face injuries in the NFL. PS RBs get moved up all the time.

On the other hand, most of these guys do not have a good alternative. They probably did not finish their degree and if they did it probably has little value.

That strength and conditioning really helped him. Glad Collins brought the right coach in for that.

Best job in America is a 3rd string QB in the NFL
I dunno. I think most 3rd stringers these days are on the practice squad collecting practice squad money. No contract. Subject to being released at any time and no more money.

IMO, best job is backup QB. You're on the 53 man roster so you have an actual contract and typically collect some major $$$. In most cases, million$ and million$. In many places, you're the most popular guy in town, with locals regularly praising you and calling your name. Finally, Aaron Donald never hits guys sitting on the bench, and few ACL injuries happen there.

And Nathan Cottrell tonight. TD reception and two point conversion run. I always thought he was a good runner, and I never understood why he did not garner more carries in the 3O.

Because he’s pretty much a straight-line runner. He’s tailor made for special teams, though.

Yeah but, you have to wear those goofy looking baseball caps while you signal in the plays.
