If you suck it’s a dead end. If you’re good, you go to the nfl (Ross) or Notre Dame (Sorry, GOL).
That's my take. Getting fired is a dead end, I don't care if it's GT or UGA. A basic wiki search tells me GT has a very remarkable history of stability and consistency. Very few epic failures in terms of HC tenures. That's actually pretty amazing.

The more I think about it, the more I think O'Brien is the guy, that will be picked. Batt already has a working relationship with him. O'Brien brings a ton of knowledge and credibility. He has not only P5 experience, but NFL experience. I see Batt as a very logical type person. All the logic points at O'Brien. Whether any of the current staff stays? Not sure... If it were me, I would clear the table and reset it.

One good thing about what we've seen since CGC left is that the players are actually motivated to play hard and with discipline and we've started seeing that show up on the field. So I don't think the new coach needs to take the "burn it all down with fire" approach to cleanse the culture.

That doesn't necessarily mean he should keep anyone, but presumably he will at least be having discussions with all of them and he can feel fine about keeping on anyone he sees as a good coach.

It seems like every time we hire a head coach, there are a couple names that get thrown around mostly as a distraction to the preferred candidate. It's good as a negotiating tactic, and it helps avoid letdown if the AD can't seal the deal and the better candidate goes somewhere else. This time around, I think Chadwell is the guy, and BOB is the name being used as a distraction.

Except BOB being the better candidate is much more debatable.

Deion only talking to Colorado and South Florida right now apparently. IF true, one would think we would be in the lead if we entered the race.... Interesting

I just don't know how much the No. 2 or No. 3 guy at an athletic department like Alabama really knows the unit coordinator on the football team. There are dozens of assistant coaches on the payroll and even more support staff. Batt apparently really didn't know Key from his time there.
However, how much will Batt ask Saban for input is another question. And who might Saban ultimately go to bat for with Batt?

If we beat Georgia and win a bowl game, we will be complete idiots if we hire somebody besides Key. Complete idiots. And, we very well may beat Georgia. I am a typical fan. If Georgia clobbers us, I will probably be wanting a change. But, the team and coaching staff sure did a great job against UNC, and when people are fighting their hardest for each other, very surprising things can happen. Like all Tech fans, I hope we beat Georgia and, if we do, I hope we keep Coach Key.

Those are very substantial and large ifs. The odds on either happening, and on both happening, are fairly small.

Beating U[sic]GA is extremely unlikely in my opinion. I said something similar about UNC but this is on a different level.

But if it happens somehow, any new coach would be walking into an almost-impossible situation. Regardless of the bowl result (presumably the hire will be made before then anyway.)

I just don't see COFH being a factor in the coaching decision this year. It's not really fair to put the coaches in a position of expecting a change of fate based on such a lopsided matchup. I suspect the decision has been made, and CBK and the rest of the staff already know and can proceed with planning for their future. Making a formal announcement would give everyone involved a head start on formalizing staff decisions and openly looking at other options before all the shake-ups happen at other programs.

I mean if Keys squad beats uGA I will be highly offended with any other coach. That being said I want Chadwell.

Slow your roll. We are not beating UGA. We simply don't have the horses. I will be impressed if we lose less than 20, to be honest. I get UGA is off and on, this year. Even an off game, they still win. In order for us to beat them, they will have to play the worst game in 20 years.... Now, with that said. If Key barely loses, I might see him differently. Until then, he is the O line coach, that failed in a positional coaching. He lost me with the UVA, Miami and FSU game.

Given the turn around by Thacker and the D, I wonder if the OL failure is on Key or the idiot who is now set for life thanks to TStan. If Chadwell is the new coach, I hope he considers retaining some of the current assistants. At a minimum, Watson should be retained.

If we are within 15 what then?
