Jaybo Shaw

Give Jaybo some time. He has time to mature to understand the offense more and just play better overall. He may be a starter in his senior year, but who knows. I unfortunately didn't keep up too much with last year's recruiting class to see how the QBs are. gt23eric, can you inform me of them?

I'll give a slight preview before he answers (since it would be better than mine anyway :D)
We recruited two players at quarterback, David Sims and Jordan Luallen. Both are athletic and I believe were classified as dual threats. Both have showed a lot of motivation as well as skill with intangibles. I also recall either scout or rivals putting Luallen as the 4th best scrambler of the QB's in that class.

David Sims - had a ton of offers. Many schools wanted him at either QB, RB, LB and Safety. Of course we wanted him at QB as did Oregon and Michigan. If you look at his starts they are incredible. He had a ton of passing yards due to WR Alshon Jeffrey. He had a ton of TD's as well. Coaches say he is a faster version of Nesbitt. Mechanics need a little work. Overall a great prospect.

Jordan Luallen - Committed early and was a main ambassador for our recruiting class. He ran a version of the Wing T in HS. He has decent speed and a good arm. Good size at 6ft3 and he is a great team leader. Threw 0int's his JR year and won state his SR year with a amazing comeback in the 4th quarter. His team was down 20 something points. Another good prospect. I like Sims better athletically though. Should be a good battle.

For a true FR I was impressed by Jaybo. He led us to wins over Miss ST and Duke. IMO Jaybo was a excellent back-up last year. I think Jaybo will always be a back-up though.
Name one game in the last 3 years where the back-up for Reggie or Taylor Bennett won a game for us. Mayboe once when Taylor was in for Reggie. Here's a kid that won 2 games as a back-up, played in the win against FSU and against Georgia. Capable back-up by any definition.

To be fair with FSU, we almost lost it.

Really, FSU, really?!?! He fumbled and threw an interception. He came in and we almost lost.

that fumble wasnt even close to being his fault... it wouldnt matter if nesbitt or spiderman had been under center.. the left side of the line let the DE through untouched and Shaw got tattooed in the back while making the pitch

Despite my last post, I think Jaybo is a great #2 guy. I have criticized him a bit for 3 things:

(1) Keeps the ball too much;
(2) Fumbles;
(3) Either acts hurt or actually gets hurt (Paul Johnson called him "concussion head" or something like that last year)

Despite my criticism though, he did come in against Miss St. and play damn well and he started against Duke and won the game. He's a great #2 guy and, if he consistently improves, he's got a chance of being a starter.

I'm glad to have Jaybo. Nobody wants to lose their starting qb, but I think we'll feel more confident with our #2 guy than most teams in the NCAA. Still, don't want to lose JN. :fingersx::biggthumpup:

If you have the football in your hands and you lose it, then the fumble is at least partly your fault. I get your point, but I don't think JN would've lost that ball.

Because Josh Nesbitt is a beast. He's very under appreciated by Tech fans in my opinion.

Actually it is his fault....when you're left hanging he has to make the decision to pitch or keep. He should have kept the ball. The decision was ridiculous. I like the kids toughness but let's face it ... it was Duke and MSU....he looked scared and intimidated against FSU...which is totally understandable.

He may not even be #2 this year for long....Tevon Washington is a helluva athlete and potential stud.

Fact is...while Jaybo is a good and tough kid....he's small and from all indications can't hold onto the ball (and I'm not talking about bad pitches) when he's hit and I mean HIT....he fumbles....he did it on the opening play of the Spring Game this year when Griffin (i think it was Griffin) laid the wood to him.

I really think that Jordan Luallen or Tevon Washington will be the #2 and #3 by season's end.

BUT....atleast we'll have a #4 with 2 starts in college play

YES>>>>>> NESBITT IS A BEAST

and from what I've seen....Washington will be a stud...no matter how he gets the ball in his hands

No its not.

He does appear to be doing a good job. I think we've got some good depth at qb, and I'm happy that we've got JS and TW back there.

Do you think Washington or Jaybo will play some Aback this year? I can't help but think one of them is going to line up with JN.

No its not.

Although...I see your point in theory. You're saying that intimidation isn't understandable.

I hate to say it .... but it happens to all athletes...even the best in sport or at they're position.

Jaybo hadn't seen speed like that on Defense ... nor the athleticism and size......so IMO it was understandable (the feeling)

The fumble.......absolutely not....he's played enough to know when to get rid of or keep the ball

With us currently having a legit 3 deep, I don't see us not redshirting a QB. There just isn't a reason unless he can fully learn and comprehend the offense in 1 month and somehow be able to get the timing down.

Of the two, it'd be Washington who would do it. From what I've seen with my untrained eye, from a running perspective, he's similar to Peeples but maybe with a bit more shiftiness.

I think we're going to see an Aback pass... don't know which Aback is going to be doing the passing though.

Upon more reflection, maybe he wasn't intimidated enough. Maybe he never accounted for the size of some of the folks that were about to hit him. Maybe that's why he fumbled all the time???
