I wish we still had Tenuta

You realize Clemson didn't score a TD in Atlanta almost the entire tenure of Tenuta?

I guess the almost doesn't count the 2003 game where Clemson scored at will. The 2005 and 2007 games were masterpieces though.

Our D looked tired after playing the entire first quarter. The 3-and-out mode in the late second and 3rd quarters didn't help the D at all. But mostly it was the safeties that got out of position allowing Clemson to rip off some huge plays.

We'll have to do better in Miami. Or it will be a long night.

GT Kyle get a life. We are much better off without Tenuta. The guy might be a pretty good defensive coach but he is a disruption and not a team player. Glad he is gone.

By the way, please add me to your list. Your comments a just idiotic and you need to shut up.

The only thing I'd like to add (and I don't like to bash players but..)

Where was Cooper Taylor on those two long streak routes on Clemson's final drive? The one with the holding call, that was completed, and the one that Tarrant knocked away in single coverage. I cannot believe we didn't call a two deep defense in those situations.

After Tarrant knocked the ball away, I saw Cooper pulling up about 5 yards underneath the receiver. Close, close call...

Dude, Tenuta's D's gave up 38 and 35 points to CU in '03 and '06 in BIG losses. He was very inconsistent against them - or perhaps it's vice versa.

Last Game: Clemson. Spiller and Ford on offense and nearly every kick. They will score on most teams.

Last Game - 1: LSU. TO's with good field position and fake punts along with a monster OL will tend to put a few on the board. After we figured out how to hold onto the ball, they only scored 3 in the 2nd.

Last Game - 2: Georgie. Stafford. Moreno. Massaquoi. Green. The best offense Georgie has had in many a year.

I think people are being a bit too hypersensitive to Kyle's post. I disagree with his assertion that our defense is bad, and who knows if Tenuta would be better with this talent, but I'm definitely not sold on Dave Wommack.

If BOR or Beej or somebody was the original poster, this thread goes a different way imo.

He led us to another top 25 defensive ranking with new schemes in his first year. The jury is still out for me. I'd like to see the scoring defense get a little better, but for me, our pass coverage was AWFUL with Tenuta, if we didn't get the QB on the blitz, then they had all day to pass on us. With Wommack I feel comfortable with our passing defense. Albeit our guys got beat last night, but that was through no fault of Wommack. Coop got beat on a play action and the pass to Ford deep over the middle was covered, just not executed very well.

I'm willing to wait to see the results of this year before I make a decision about how I feel with Wommack.

The whole point of a defense is TO NOT GIVE UP POINTS.

They played a lot because they allowed Clemson to drive up and down the field.

You mean like in 2003, when we gave up 5 TD's to Clemson at home?

Seriously, I feel much better about the defense if anything after tonight. Until our depth caught up to us in the second half, the only scoring play they allowed was a long touchdown pass.

Agree with Floridaj, here.

And they stopped CU when they had to to preserve the win.

How close we came to almost losing was NOT the defense's fault at all.

PJ's teams have always played to out-score the other team if it was not a blowout. I can't ever remember him being in defensive battles.

You can add me to your "not fond" list.

Let me see:

1. CPJ's defenses will innately give up more points than Tenuta's. Chan played a ball-control game which rarely had big plays and usually took up a good bit of time. CPJ hits home runs much more often, increasing the number of drives (i.e. points) regardless of how good the defense is. The quick kick return touchdown made that worse tonight.

2. Seriously, you must not have seen the first half. We were, after all, up 24-0. Our defense made some incredible plays to keep that score 0 until...

3. We had seven straight drives ending with either a punt or an interception. 7 straight. Those drives TOP, by the way, kept the defense off for a very short time.

Seriously, I feel much better about the defense if anything after tonight. Until our depth caught up to us in the second half, the only scoring play they allowed was a long touchdown pass.

1) We only had 1 home run last night.
2) Our defense played well for one quarter. That's not a positive.
3) How is that any different than the offense under Gailey?

I don't think our defense was the major culprit last night, but it didn't play well and the reason I bring it up is that this is becoming a trend.

Saying our defense was tired because our offense sucked is AN EXCUSE. Our offense was never good under Gailey, but our defense under Tenuta was always excellent.

That was one game. This has happened 3 games in a row (not counting JSU). Let me know when Tenuta ever allowed an average of 36 PPG in 3 consecutive games.
