Bama/GT Series Canceled?

I'd be disappointed if this were true. Hell, this season's home schedule sux. I love GT and somewhat justify continuing buying tix based on who we have coming up. Honestly, if we start to schedule like Bama's last year (FIU, UTC, North Texas) I will eventually just stop coming. I don't pay to see the worst teams in CFB come to town.

If you love GT wouldn't it stand to reason that you would be pay to see GT play? Especially when the price is so ridiculously low compared other football programs of similar quality? Maybe you like GT, or you somewhat love GT, or you have an affinity for GT.

Because I work hard to earn my money. If GT started filling up on teams like San Jose State, North Texas, FIU, UTC, Georgia State and others - then I consider GT to be stealing my money. You aren't paying for a game when Tennessee Chattanooga comes to town, you are just buying a win. And it's boring.

I miss playing Tennessee and Auburn and Florida.

Don't blame Georgia Tech. Blame college football.

Hate this if true. Sounds phony to me but, what the hey? I'm of the opine that Tech and Bama still have intrinsic trouble getting along. If true maybe that has something to do with it. I can't see Tech just backing out unless somebody was pointing a pistol at them.

This dinner took place today?

If so, very strange coz Saban was in ATL playing in a charity golf event.

There's this new invention called automobiles. Apparently, they work well on this other new invention called an interstate highway.

It's not like Alabama is THAT far away.

There are also these things, I think they call them "aeroplanes", but I'm not sure what they do. I hypothesize that they may be of the devil.

It's a prety good drive from Tuscalooser to Atlanta.

If this is true, I suspect it has nothing to do with wanting to play them or not. DRAD has spoken many times about trying to balance our home schedule. With VT, unc, Clemson, and mutts all on the same rotation, it creates a great home schedule one year and a bad one the next....like this year.

The playing of georgie in the first game at the dome was one way he tried to change that and it didn't work.

He is probably trying something else to fix the schedule and needs to delay the bama series to do that.

This seems reasonable and I'm all for it. I would have liked to play UGAy in the dome, but just not the first game of the season. I would also be down for us to play at a neutral site with one of our stronger opponents one year to help balance the schedule. P.S. would have definitely bought season tickets this year if it was last years schedule. I love my jackets, but I don't have the money to get season tickets every year (broke college student who does not attend GT and would have to get a pair of season tickets)

the OP said his friends were in Birmingham, so I assume Saban was too unless he just wanted to mention where his friends lived.

Yeah, the dinner was in Birmingham. There are a lot of direct flights between Bham and Atlanta, although he probably took a private jet.

The home game was for 2014 when the current home schedule looks like: UVA DUKE MIAMI WAKE and WOFFORD.

Let's see:

1) Poster gets texts from friends
2) Friends claim to be at dinner with Saban (apparently the dinner was over by at least 7:12 central time, given the time of the op)
3) The dinner was in Birmingham
4) Saban was playing golf the same day in a tournament in Atlanta. Paul Johnson beat the crap out of him
5) the first updates of the results are at 7:15 p.m. eastern time (LINK)
6) Which isn't surprising, since the players didn't leave until (LINK) 6 p.m. EST. Leaving Saban 2 hours and 12 minutes to: get from the Reynolds Plantation to a restaurant in Birmingham, and for your friends to finish dinner and text you.

So, if your friends were at a booster dinner, it might be possible. But it looks like smack talk.

Congrats! You've just posted an off-season made-up-fill-the-time rumor. It may be true, but it is unlikely that your friends heard it that way.

I highly, highly doubt that. I still think the majority of these conference changes are never going to happen. Quoting Saban, "Georgia Tech asked to be removed."

Would anyone here actually expect Saban to say "we (Bama) asked out of the series" even if that were the case?
