CPJ: Vad "light years ahead" than expected

After hearing this I think that if Vad would have been at Tech in time for spring, then he would definitely be the favorite to start this fall.

I don't remember exactly but it was either his choice to stay for the rest of high school or there was an issue with getting all his high school stuff done to graduate before the spring.
He just wanted to enjoy his senior year.

I'm convinced this thread is just an exercise to see how many times the same thing can be said by different people.

I'm very certain this line of posts is being carried out to measure... nevermind.

PJ will play Vad if he's the best qb. Period. Have I already said that? :hsughrun:

I'll be happy if Vad just ends up pushing Tevin to perform better this year and ends up getting redshifted. If Tevin starts all year it will probably mean they've had a good year.

This. I don't care if Chan Gailey is playing qb for us this year, I just want to WIN

And his school district in NC wouldn't let him enroll early. He wanted to, but he couldn't. It was out of his control.

Track also would not have kept him from enrolling early. Starting early and getting a jump on the competition was the utmost important to him, he just wasn't able to do it due to things beyond his control.

Thanks for the info. Ah, well, it just adds to the intrigue since we did not get to see him in Spring practice.

I don't really expect him to start this year at this point but I do like the idea that he might be good enough to push the other guys. Whether we can make it through the season with 2 QB's will be the question.

I expect Vad is fast, but this would take his speed to an entirely different level and explain the "light years" comment.

We won't. At least not with this sorry pair.

Some notes from AJC blog, Jones says Washington doing well so far in camp. Note that there was not any media access/coverage about Sunday's first day in pads which was also a kicking scrimmage.

He was supposedly doing great in spring practice until we saw him in the spring game.

He may have been injured for that game, but 5 turnovers is absolutely dismal, any way you look at it.

bonham

Synjyn had a broken hand...I saw it afterward and it swelled up the size of a cantaloupe. He could not even grip the ball.

This....

I've said it before and I'll say it again. If Paul Johnson thinks burning Vad's redshirt will win us even one more game then he will.

Who knows what the future holds. Maybe Vad breaks an arm on the scout team if he redshirts. I don't know. All I know is you play to win today and worry about tomorrow tomorrow.

I sing this song every time the redshirting question comes up. The purpose of redshirting is not to extend a player's career, but to give those that are not ready another year to develop. Look at Marcus Wright. Lots of people thought he was going to be another Charlie Rogers when he got here. Now in his senior year he can barely see the depth chart. No one knows what it will look like five years down the road. A good coach will play the players who give the team the best chance to win the next game. The coach who does not do that will end up in the stands watching his replacement win with his players.

I'm a long term strategic vision kind of guy. My dissertation was on strategy execution and I teach strategy courses. I understand that the job is to drain the swamp. But I also understand that if you get so focused on draining the swamp that you neglect to fight off the alligators, the swamp will never get drained anyway.

The alligators will die off or leave by themselves if you drain the swamp.
