No I doubt the perception will change. This major is more likely to be used as a tool for coaches to say "look, it's not that bad" rather than "we got free boats and hoes, too". The sales pitch will probably be made to the individual recruits rather than to the public image. For those willing to accept a little bit of challenge who might otherwise be turned away by the "yeah it is that bad but we totes have lots of support for you" pitch that athletes may have gotten in the past, this could do the trick. It's a small step towards competing for the highly rated guys who are enrolling at other academic schools over us.
This basically. It isn't something to make their time at Tech easier per se, but it's something that they may actually have a desire to take. If they don't have an interest in learning about business and management, classes become basically pure chore to them. Maybe this lightens that feeling a bit.
