Totally serious question

Every school's message board is like this. It's never swayed a recruit. When things get bad, fans get angry and vent online.

I challenge any of you to find a message board of a decent football program where things aren't going well and the fans are soooo respectful during tough times. Hell, the Bama kicker recieved death threats after the Auburn game. Their msg board was crazy as well.

I'm sure it stopped all those 5 stars from coming too...

I can help the OP with a concrete example from the VL transfer thread.

StingTalk took tweets from Vad about not into "the 3O thing" and something from NCST fans and crapped it out as no one should come play for CPJ because he obviously lies to recruits.

That's just a dumb argument or criteque of the coach.

Only a ööööty program with a horrible coach who would allow a star QB to transfer (which signifies the end of said coaches tenure) would have this kind of post on a fan message board.

Also, high school offense.

I agree with you op. it gets pretty absurd when supposed fans are encouraging our best players to transfer or cheer when gt loses because it vindicates their assessment of our head coach.

So a Bowl game does not effect our recruiting, but a message board does? Solid reasoning.

Every game affects recruiting. It's just not the absolute end of the world that some people make it out to be. Believe it or not, 8-5 isn't that much different than 7-6, especially to recruits who think they will come in and turn everything around anyway.

I think the personal attacks on the head coach are really lame. Saying he sucks at coaching is fine but the people calling him names and acting like they know what CPJ is thinking are just lame.

So commercials with tricycles and angry nerds don't effect recruiting, but a message board does? If you want to believe that then ...Yuuuur at Jooorja Tackkkk you can do that.

The one thing I'll add to what Crew said, which is 100% right, is that if there is one thing that engineers value as much as being right, it's pointing out where someone else is wrong.
plus eleventy-billion!

I'm feeling biscuits, hotsausage, butter and sorghum syrup! Might as well have a cuppa coffee. Potta coffee? Mebbe some fried eggs and grits and cheese. Yep.

I agree that the difference in record isn't that big of a difference. The difference in perception is more about our record in big games that has been abysmal lately. The other thing that discourages recruits is our record in the NFL draft lately. If you want a good degree, come to GT despite the criticism, if all you want is some chance to join the 80% of former NFL players who are bankrupt, go to hell (aka UGA, Clemson, Alabama, etc.).

I think those commercials definitely have a positive impact on the recruiting of many students, which is exactly what they were intended to do. The viral nature of that video just shows how awesome many people thought it was.

Football players may like it too, but most probably don't care much about it. The type of kids that would actually be turned off by that commercial are the ones who probably wouldn't be interested in or make it at GT anyway.

I wonder if all the alabama fans going ham on Nick Saban will drive all their recruits away.

The point being, of course, that all fans of all programs are lunatics so any recruit looking over fan message boards finds the same thing wherever he goes.

If having stupid fans were a detriment to having a successful football program, the SEC would be the worst league instead of the best.

If one speaks the truth, is it trashing the program?

Try giving your wife an honest assessment of her weight. Do it at Thanksgiving dinner in front of the extended family.

There are things that need to be said in public, and things that are helpful if said in private, and things that are never helpful no matter if they are true or not.
