Gentlemen, Reggie Ball

even I could probably throw a TD to Calvin. Doesn't say much about my abilities as a QB.

i doubt you could do it in a real game. comments like this are the dumbest of all

if you could have, then it is likely that you would have been on a football team somewhere.. maybe GaSouth'n or Georgie State

Also, to be fair, even I could probably throw a TD to Calvin. Doesn't say much about my abilities as a QB.

Case in point: Matthew Stafford

(and I don't need a lesson in how proficient of a qb stafford is.....he's a dwag, plain and simple)

Wow. That article really hit home for me.

Carter was my 7 year old little cousin who passed away a few days after the Clemson miracle in 04'. He had suffered through a long battle with cancer (Ewing's Sarcoma).

The last time I saw Carter, I told him I loved him and that Calvin Johnson was the best receiver I'd ever seen play at Georgia Tech. I said "I think we have a chance to win with this guy. He's awesome."

When the game came on a few days later, Carter was too sick to even open his eyes but he was listening to the game. Turns out it was his last. Reggie and Calvin gave him one helluva going out game to listen to.

We come from a big UGA family and Carter and I were the only Tech fans in it. I miss that kid more than anything. I was actually given a copy of that picture album with Carter and Reggie Ball. I've still got it here at home. Little Carter thought the WORLD of Reggie Ball.

Thanks for sharing that. I'm wiping moisture from my eyes as I type.

At the end of the day, all of these guys are someone's hero, and it is beyond AWESOME to know Reggie made the most out of that for your cousin.

Reggie's shortcomings were always known. He worked hard to overcome them, but he pretty much did reach his ceiling.

The fault lay with the HC, who was unable to recruit a decent QB for his system and our OC who liked to call plays thinking that we had Aaron Rodgers under center.

Reggie was never put in a position to succeed and it is amazing that he managed to pull the wins he did during his time at Tech

Hmmmmmmmmm. And what was HIS name again ??

Dammit, I just got dried up from reading the article and now this!

:bigcry:

It was a really great call on the radio with Wes and Jeff Van Note.

I remember everyone bitching about him starting and then us getting to see just how bad his backups were when Bennett took the field.

that backup hung 300+ yards on wvu in the bowl game when RB failed out and nearly beat them if not for an epic defensive collapse. when i saw that, i thought we found a QB. Fast forward to the next year, and then I realized TB wasn't that QB, we just had the best WR ever.

I like Reggie, his drive, and the years have probably matured him but he was tough to watch. his career completion percentage was under 50%.

I never was Reggie. I hold Gailey accountable. He was able to recruit. Too bad he didn'[t go out and get a really good offensive coordinator and be a real head coach.

Reggie had his highs such as the Auburn games and a division championship and lows such as four losses against UGA. Perhaps he will best be remembered as having been voted the worst four year starting QB in the history of college football by College Football News.

Which again, is an indictment against the coaching staff's inability to recruit a half decent QB.

Heck, put any of Paul Johnson's QB recruits in Gailey's system, and they'd all be competitive with, if not beating RB out for a starting job.

The only decent QB Gailey got in Nesbitt was wasted running a wildcat system in the 1 year Gailey coached him behind Taylor f'in Bennett who couldn't hold a starting job at LaTech.

This. Bennett transferred to LA Tech and couldn't hang on as a starter and eventually got benched.
Still a Tech man, imo. Partied at Black Finn with them before ACCCG in 2012. Good guy.

Also a terrible game against a ööööty wake forest team in the 06 acc championship. 9-29. All 9 completions to Calvin.

Agreed. I did not mean that to disparage Bennett. He did a great job for us in several games, and really deserved a Gator Bowl W.

But he shouldn't have been an FBS starting QB. And I blame Gailey for putting him, like he did Reggie, in a position where he could not succeed.

The game where Choice had 21 carries for a 100 TDs and we inexplicably decided that was too much running? Although Wake could not stop our running game at all?

Ive defended him. Glad some are seeing why. Tech fans were way to brutal on this kid.

The blame for that game is turd sandwich made with the white bread that is Chan Gailey and a big ol' steaming pile of Patrick Nix in the middle.

It's not Reggie's fault.
