Environment and Fans

How about 'GET LOUD' signs? Or is it 'MAKE SOME NOISE'? I remember back when I was a kid the cheer squad was setup over in front of the student section which was located in the Lower East. Down where the Wreck comes in. They had a PA setup with the head dude cheerleader leading the cheers over a mic which was loud enough (not too loud) to hear in the West. Of course this was back when they also used those placards in the stands to spell out messages during the game. I assume if they tried any of those tactics today people would just complain that they were too annoying.
They were doing this several years ago on the video board with black/white strobing graphics. I don't know why that went away either. That combined with the band's F tuning on 3rd down used to have BDS rocking on big 3rd and 4th downs.

Whatever is fine. Just change the south stands to a bar seating area and move those people elsewhere to fill in empty areas.
Yeah because the empty lower east side stands are not bad enough.

Unless things have changed massively this year, the problem with the Tech fanbase is rarely the students.

Only serve beer in seats. Problem solved.

This will have to go down as one of those rare times in the Internet's history where a person's opinion wasn't changed by someone else's opinion. It's a dumb play.
We can agree to disagree. I'm cool with that.

TBH, though, this is another reason that Paul Johnson has always been one of my favorite coaches. Trying to steal possessions with the timeout play, going for it on 4th down all the time, running it on 3rd and long (and picking it up sometimes). Conventional wisdom be damned - Paul Johnson is going to do what he thinks gives us the best chance to win and he's not gonna give a öööö what anyone thinks about it. Sometimes that might mean being too aggressive and making a dumb call (fake punt at Pitt) but more often it means breaking the will of our opponent as they think they've ended our death march with a 3rd down stop, just to have us come back out and ram it down their throat on 4th.

I wonder if the fanbase schism (which is shrinking rapidly again) is split on this as much as they are split on the option offense.

I love the option offense. Someday, when we get a ööööty coach that doesn't run it, I will have to reevaluate my season ticket status

Re:whiteout - go look at the official merchandise website. Go into the GT bookstore like I did hours before the game. Tell me how many white, long-sleeve options there are. Shirts, hoodies, jackets - all damn near impossible to find. I am fine with having a whiteout late in the year, but stock up on white cold weather merchandise to sell to the fans then. I was at the bookstore 4 hours before kick on Saturday. Table of white hoodies - size S only. They just weren't prepared...

I bought a large at the trailer outside the stadium

I got a large white hoodie in the bookstore on game day at about 2. If that had not been available, I had backup plans to have something white on over my jacket.

Put some effort and forethought into things and it’s not so hard.

I ordered mine and my son's last week from B&N, and picked up at the book store on Saturday. They had all sizes in stock then. Also, we don't get to make many games, but every game we go to we end up on TV. He had his on under his JT jersey.

We need to get South Africa to sponsor issuing 30,000 white vuvuzelas, with the words "third down buzz horn" on the side.
I know we aren't supposed to have noisemakers, but what if the entire crowd was considered part of the band? Could we have them then?

Band can incur penalties against the team (iirc)

Don't know how msu gets away with it.

Then why did we get Kazoo's that one game? Hell, where was I when I got a Kazoo? Was that a GT game?

They have some kind of special dispensation because it's a longstanding tradition, but they aren't allowed to klanga during play. You'll hear it mostly die down while the offense is at the line, and then fire up again after the play.
