2018 Team Captains named...

Also Justin couldn't beat out Vad Lee so I guess Justin was not that good his first yr, good example of what I am trying to tell you!!

What the bombs he threw to

JN was a completely different runner! He was not the threat TQ is, please!!! Again you are missing the point. Give it a rest you are not getting it.

It seems that I get it perfectly well, actually. We have a difference in opinion. I prefer a TO quarterback who is capable of making a read first, then deciding where the ball will go. You seem to prefer to hit the O button the PS3 controller.

Sigh. That was Vad's second year after "holding the clipboard" for Tevin. Paul modified the offense to fit Vad's skillset. JT5 was a true freshman and not even considered the heir apparent since Vad was supposed to be the next Jesus.

I am not going down the path you are trying to lead me -- I am not bashing TaQuan. He just showed very little as a TO QB last year. He is probably our best offensive athlete and needs to be on the field. Hopefully not at QB.

That was actually TQ'S first yr running this offense. You will not find a QB under PJ who ran the offense like he did. His stats prove it. Yes he has room for improvement and we will see that this yr. That is all I am trying to tell you.

When TQ gets enough time in this offense he will make the right reads. The second yr is when this usually happens.

Just comparing 2 guys running the same offense in their first year.
Also, you keep talking about 2017 being TaQ's "first year" in the offense, and you even comment that JT5 obviously sucked since he couldn't even beat out Vad Lee in his first season. You do realize 2017 was TaQuan's 3rd season playing in Paul's offense, right? (Rhetorical question, you did not know that).

TQ was moved all the place since has been at Tech. He played AB etc. This is is first yr running this offense. Justin played QB in 2013 a good bit that is his first yr. Pull those stats for 2013.

TQ Marshall ran the ball 8 times in 2015 as a RB none as a QB. In 2016 he ran the ball 7 times as a QB all yr. So yes 2017 was his first yr as a QB in this offense as a QB, I would have to say. You have to have reps and a lot of them to get this offense down. You don't just go out there and start pitching the ball everywhere like a veteran.

At the end of the day, its really about converting third downs to keep the offense on the field, the defense off the field and, hopefully, put some more points on the board.

In 2014, we converted 3rd downs 56% of the time (#1 nationally).

In 2017, we converted 3rd downs 46% of the time (#12 nationally).

In 2014, we went 99 for 171 so 72 possessions stalled (5 per game).* In 2017, we went 72 for 158 (86 stalled drives - 8 per game). So the difference is 3 possessions per game that kept going in 2014 vs 2017. So if you figure a scoring drive is worth about 4 -5 points, that almost explains the point per game diff between 2014 and 2017 (38 ppg in '14 vs 28 ppg in '17).

Converting third downs, getting those 3 possessions per game to show up on the scoreboard instead of putting our stressed defense back on the field is what TQ better start thinking about in 2018.

* I made the simplifying assumption that a failed 3rd down conversion attempt = a stalled drive but obviously, that is not always the case. If the percentage of the drives between '14 and '17 that produced a field goal, TD, 4th down conversion or the end of a half or end of the game are anywhere close, the analysis and conclusion are still fairly valid.

TaQuan doesn’t. JT and Nesbit didn’t seem to have a problem in their first years. I’d guess without looking it up that tevin did fine hisnfitst season too.

Yes they made plenty of mistakes. Ask Duke about JT

This should be a happy thread in which we congratulate our players instead of öööö on them.

Blame Johnson if you don’t like Marshall. Marshall is just out there playing to the best of his ability and it’s not his fault if he’s the best option. Same öööö RB went through.

I think a lot of people were already not happy with his performance in the second half of the season, but his uga sec championship trip a week after losing to them left a really bad taste in people's mouths. I don't wish any ill on him but I do want us to try someone who's versatile, knows when to pitch and doesn't throw ducks in the air. Uga almost won a title with a freshman qb, and Bama beat them with one. I say we see what the new recruit James Graham has to offer.

Well said although I would give LJ and TO a chance too.

But but but but but TaQuan made 2 deep throws this season....

(Wholeheartedly agree)

How many times did AB'S touch the ball in the UGAg game?
