2020 Recruiting

If we believe in the talent, then I say you bring him in regardless. Sounds like we have enough OVs remaining to do it. You still want his LOI even if he doesn’t qualify directly out of HS. If he does go to JUCO or whatever, then we start at the top of his list if/when he qualifies.

Right now this all feels like unsubstantiated speculation. I’ll reserve judgment for Feb 5th.
 
Russell Johnson changed his rivals futurecast to "unlikely" for Morton. Doesn't seem likely he signs Feb. 5. We did bring in a player very late last year, so I wouldn't say never.
 
Did we prioritize Morton over other DBs? Potentially missing the boat on Battle or another? Iiwii. Our best depth on the roster is likely at DB.

I really don't know. Collins seems to just love Morton in particular, so he may be fine with not having another DB if Morton can't come. Battle is one we certainly could have gotten if we wanted, judging by his social media. Latest crystal balls have him heading to VPI.

In other news, Wiggles is now tweeting out FCS offers, so I think there was more going on with his recruitment than his own indecision.
 
Battle still has an OV to take and last I heard VPI was “trying to get it.” I imagine he’s one we could get if we wanted. We seem so DB heavy already though. Would rather have an extra transfer spot given our success in the portal already.

Yeah I believe we could get Battle if we want him. I think we're just running out of room and making sure we try to get the best available guys or ones who are highest on our board first.
 
Many think Battle is overrated. Staff has never really wanted him and I don't think they want him even if we miss on the other DBs. Collins is very picky about DBs.

He did his OV here early; back in the summer.

Agree that the GT hat will just be a prop for him, though. I'd be surprised to know that he isn't a take for us, however. I think it's more he or his family were never sold on us.

You will not make it very far if your OVs go to non-qualifiers in any appreciable numbers. Its not about wasting the money, its wasting the OVs. Of course last weekend of recruiting its easy to know if you have a few OVs leftover to burn on "flyers". Many good reasons to do so of course.

Battle got a huge bump on rivals out of the blue a few months back, but it didn't really come with bigger and better offers.
 
It came because he’s in play for the 2nd signing day and the sites wanted to increase the drama/subscriptions. Surely people understand that a lot of the recent bumps are driven by this. The early signing day players did not get worse.
