2022 Season Ticket Thread

Sitting in the best seats at BDS (imo) gets you an upper level seat in MBS for a "home game". What a crock.

I'm not bitching just to bitch. If this was really a home game every season ticket would be in that lower bowl. We were told this was a home game, taking the place of a game at BDS. That was not true.

Is the upper deck (or maybe the 200 section?) at MB that much worse than upper deck at BDS? I guess I don’t see the problem if the system is upper-for-upper and lower-for-lower.

I moved upstairs for the Covid season, and didn’t love the seats - I felt very removed from the game up there. But my friend that used to have upper tickets would complain about not being able to see in the back of the lower east…

You're completely missing the point I'm making. GT season ticket holders will be in worse seats than Clemson/general public, because this is fundamentally NOT A HOME GAME, which was the whole point of trading a game at Bobby Dodd.

Look below you at the club seats (and all around me in 127), which are full of visiting fans. Visitors and randos are sitting in better seats than you at BDS, too.

I know from extensive road game experience that GTAA isn’t very good at figuring out which seats are more desirable than others. But it doesn’t seem ridiculous for them to think “this guy who sits in the upper deck at BDS must like sitting in the upper deck” when allocating tickets. I’m guessing my former upper deck friend would have been pissed if they’d stuck him in the lower deck.

If you’re that out of shape about it, why not just call your ticket rep and ask for lowers? If there’s enough room for visitors and general public to sit in the seats you want, maybe they can work you in, too.

We're looking past each other on what I think the issue is here, so I'll quit now.

I renewed this afternoon. I sit low in 225 (upper east) at about the 50 yd line. Clemson game says upper level.
I sit at top of 225 and my tickets show upper also for Clem. At BDS I am right at 50 yd line, in MBS last year that translated to about the 25 or 30 yard line. Thought we should have been closer to50, but you had to upgrade to the box seats or whatever they call the high price section in upper at MBS.

So what's the problem? We have maybe 25K season ticket holders. The rest of BDS is available to the general public, including visiting fans. The biggest single block for them is the Upper North, but there are non-season ticket seats throughout the entire stadium.

GTAA doesn't scrunch all the season ticket holders into the "best" seats in BDS, even though we would all probably fit in the lower decks between the 10s or something. It seems like they're just trying to map where you sit in BDS into a comparable location at MBS (I seem to recall this being explicitly stated early on). There are a lot more seats at MBS, so our 25K season ticket holders will presumably be spread out a lot more, with a lot more opportunity for visitors and randos to sit in "better" seats.

Are you mad that they aren't scrunching all the season ticket holders into the "best" seats at MBS? Will somebody that intentionally sits in the upper north at BDS get upper endzone tickets in MBS? I dunno, but would it be wrong if they did?

Are you mad about your personal seat assignment (call your ticket rep), or about the approach that they're using in general? How else should they do it?

None of that.

The seating assignment only confirms we lost a home game at BDS for a neutral site Kickoff Classic game, not for a home game at MBS, as we were told. This was not the case in 2017. I understand the dynamics for bowl games and neutral-site games. That's not what we were told this would be. Not sure I can explain it any clearer.

The point I'm making is that it's AS CLOSE TO A HOME GAME as they can make it considering that it's happening in a different stadium with a lot more seats. The two options I can see are "put season ticket holders in seats that the GTAA deems as comparable to where they sit in BDS" or "put season ticket holders in the 'best' seats (lower sidelines) regardless of where they sit in BDS." Short of letting every season ticket holder pick where they want to sit in MBS, what else could they do?

I acknowledge that the GTAA isn't that great at judging the desirability/comparability of seats. But given that they aren't mind readers, it become a particular problem when different people have different ideas about what makes a seat good.

I dunno, as long as they're consistent in their approach and hopefully flexible at accommodating people who don't like where they ended up before they open up sales to the general public, I don't know what more they can do.

No. The UNC game last year is as close to a home game as they can make it. What's going to be happening in this preseason neutral-site game is something different, it's fine that you are cool with it but you are arguing a complaint I'm not making.

OK, so please explain to me how the words "Upper Level" in your seating assignment confirm that this is a neutral site Kickoff Classic game and not a home game? Do you not sit in the upper level for home games at BDS?

Why are you saying it's a neutral site game? Because you're sitting in the upper deck? What info am I missing that's telling you that this is a neutral site, 50/50, no home-cooking in the A/V production game? Because I'm NOT fine with it if this is a neutral-site game.

You said this:

"So looking at my renewal form it lists Clemson tickets as "upper level".

Home game my ass. We traded a home game for a neutral site Chick-fil-A kickoff game. Who does that?"

How did you get from "my tickets are in the upper level" to "we traded a home game for a neutral site game?"

Oh that alone doesn't definitely confirm it. I called it for what it was before seating assignments were ever made. It's just one more data point. If you won't be convinced until you see Clemson painted in one of the end zones and half of the entire lower bowl filled with orange.

I like that we are playing in a kickoff classic game. At the expense of a home game? Who does that? We'll agree to disagree.

I sit in upper east because it offers a much better view of the game than any low level seats do. And midfield seats are great. I would rate mine as excellent for watching the game (except for the sun). That said, to each his own.
I don’t object to upper level at MBS IF the seats offer a comparably excellent view of the game. If it’s 200 level, maybe okay. I’ve heard numerous complaints about the actual upper (top) level seating.
Tennessee - mediocre end zone corner seats.
UNC - upper somewhere (not near midfield) but I paid a few extra bucks and got in the Harrah’s Club. We had a good time. Well worth it that night.

Edit to add: bottom line, I’ve seen no attempt to offer “comparable” seating.

We don't even have to agree to disagree - if we gave up a lucrative home game where we get all the revenue and have at least some semblance of a home field advantage for a 50/50 game where we split the revenue, we're idiots. I didn't think that's what we were sold when these MBS games were announced, but here's a quote from almost exactly 3 years ago:

"Each team will receive its own ticket allotment to the game and additional tickets will be sold through the Bowl ticket office. Tickets will be available for public sale early in 2022." [https://www.wbtw.com/college-sports/clemson-georgia-tech-to-kickoff-2022-football-season/]

The initial announcement is here [https://mercedesbenzstadium.com/georgia-tech-play-annual-game-mercedes-benz-stadium/] and it's a little mixed - it states that all the games will be GT home games, but also lists the Clemson game as a CFA Kickoff game, which may be a contradiction in terms.

So yeah, I won't be surprised if this ends up being a 50/50 game, and it's just another way that the current GTAA leadership is screwing things up.

And another thing. :-) Since I sit on the visitor sideline at home (still ostensibly majority Tech fans), I'll be pretty pissed if this is a 50/50 game and the GTAA puts me in the middle of the Clemson crowd for a "home game."

Tennessee doesn't really count, since it was 100% a neutral site game from the start. I also had bad corner endzone seats for that game.

In theory, we should have had comparable seats for the UNC game, though I wonder if having the upper deck closed contributed to pushing my seats farther toward the endzone than what I have at home.

The Clemson game this year might be yet another permutation - it's included in our season ticket packages like a home game, so I'd like to believe my seats won't be as bad as what I had for Tennessee. But if it's also a neutral site game, I expect my seats to be worse than what I had for UNC.

I hope we're making some money off this deal, because it's kind of a cluster from a fan perspective...

I grew up in a state of constant fear of the devil. An invisible, immortal, embodiment of evil with power I couldn't begin to wrap my head around who, given the inclination, could make all my worst fears come true. The only thing that ever made enough sense to make me feel better was when someone told me that the devil only knew about me what he could see and hear - he couldn't read my mind.

There is plainly some sort of malevolent force at work in modern college football and though we may never fully understand why, it evidently hates us. I used to put a lot of effort into making my posts about college sports as nonsensical as possible, to throw this force off the scent of the fears hardwired into my soul. After over two decades of living and dying with Georgia Tech, it no longer takes any effort to accomplish this. Take my advice: you're here so you're already clearly looking to invite some degree of misery into your life, but don't just roll out the mustard rug for the great shadow that has oozed its way across the face of collegiate athletics. You will absolutely be sitting in the middle of an endless sea of orange for that game and there is a very high probability that you did it to yourself with that post.

I don’t have as many AT points as the vast majority of the crowd I sit with. I’m not yet in the triple digit AT priority despite trying to catch up as fast as I can. I was persistent and was willing to buy 1 seat they couldn’t move, then got 2 seats apart from each other for 2 seasons (we just found 2 empties together), then I got 2 together and 1 apart (hasn’t been hard finding 3 together), then 2 & 2 (occasionally could not find 4 together) now it’s finally 4 together. I fork over quite a few $$
for football tickets every year with the psl/fund. Still I was banished to the lower corner for UT and it was not cool. I scalped for good seats and gave my 4 away to some GT kids/friends.

I came to the whole season ticket buying party late because 20 yrs of being stationed across country or the other side of the world, having been deployed out of the country for 14 of those 20 football seasons. The closest I lived was 1200 miles away. Maybe it would be different had I stayed in Atlanta but you’d think almost 20 yrs of forking over what’s now almost $5k for football tickets annually would be enough to keep from getting shafted. On top of that I donate a fair amount every year.

If GT screws me again, that may be it. I can buy whatever tickets I want far cheaper on the open market, I can donate to AT and get far more points than buying season tickets and move up faster. Why GT just wants to keep screwing people like me who are loyal fans is just beyond belief? I shouldn’t have to beg, harass my ticket rep. It should just happen.

Maybe I won’t be able to get back to my section as someone will take them, but this is just too much BS. This is a home game for GT. We should all be placed where we normally sit and Clemp gets whatever is left over. It’s not supposed to be we get half, they get half so half the GT fans get screwed. The ones that don’t care aren’t coming anyway.
