2022 Spring Game - St Patty’s Day(Thursday)

Yep, if I’m the leader of a 3 win program my #1 concern would be my team getting a full spring break.
Agreed. I feel the same way. I’m glad I passed on The new Waffle flavored prejizz with Collins’ stamp on it.
All about that 4no4

Having on TV brings more reach to fans. Thursday makes sense for students because spring breaks is the following week. If you had on Friday night or Saturday of that week then students would already be headed home or whatever... Obviously this creates issues for the working population of Tech fans.
The working population of Tech Fans are the constituency that buys season tickets.
Are you saying the ACC network would not give us a time slot on a Saturday?
I am sure they will have thousands of Tech students in attendance on a Thursday night. They will have few younger students since it is a school night. Finally, the potential for crime particularly after the game is much higher at night as opposed to mid-day on Saturday.
Our AD is amazing.

Again, see the AJC article somebody quoted early in the thread, which lays out the rationale. I’m not saying I agree with it, but there’s at least some logic.

Apparently the following week is spring break for Tech, so there won’t be any students there on Friday or Saturday anyway. (I don’t know that many students come to the game anyway.)

They wanted to wrap up practice before spring break so there’s not an off week in the middle of it. Fair enough. They also wanted to give the players a full spring break, which is also reasonable.

There are apparently a lot of other sporting events on campus (GT and some kind of tournament) Friday and Saturday, which would stretch the available resources (staff, security, etc.). Not unreasonable.

Also factor in that there’s not much enthusiasm around the program right now, so it’s not like we were going to draw a big crowd on Friday or Saturday either. (And based on history, it’ll be raining…)

Your crime thing is a pretty big stretch. Ain’t nobody getting robbed on campus at 8 o’clock on a Thursday night.

So maybe we picked the worst solution to a problem with a lot of constraints. Like everything else about the football program at the moment, the proper response is “who cares?”

Honestly, öööö the players getting a full spring break. They aren't going to win more games by having the free time to chug beer in PCB. Actually, now that I think about it, these guys probably drink seltzer.

You’re right. We absolutely should remove any hint of the College student side of being a student athlete at Georgia Tech. How dare they try to enjoy the college experience!

Why not start spring practice after spring break and avoid these conflicts?

They’d be too busy studying that big fat calculus book they lug around, wouldn’t have time to learn the playbook & then distraction of practice would cause them all to flunk out.

I dunno, ask Collins. I think he’s said something about “wanting to get back on the grass” or whatever. Not sure there’s really any advantage to starting early, but starting later hasn’t been helping us win many games, so…

Yeah, I think the idea was to hit the ground running with the new coaches and to get the taste of last season out of the kids' mouths. Doubt it's a game changer either way

He meant Smoking Grass .... Sort of Like Stansbury during the Hire.
Grass, Turf, Dust, Bedmites, Northern California Sinsemilla, His booger collection from 84, Cheryl Tiegs Poster with a Hole in the Face, Pics of Him Kissing TStans Headshot.... we could play on any of the above surfaces and we may win 3.

Hear me out on this:

We've already heard a couple of the new hires distancing themselves from the decision to start spring practice so early. This is another one of coach dumb dumb's initiatives to do things differently than everyone else simply for the sake of trying something different. To date, he's only proven that the established norms are well founded.

I’m intrigued. Which coaches are distancing themselves from that decision? Genuinely curious.
