Problem is, if he signs, we only have 70 schollys left for the rest of the team.15 offers. We must really want him!
Wrong. We get to use 14 schollys from other teams.Problem is, if he signs, we only have 70 schollys left for the rest of the team.
2024 was our first year in this scheme so it wouldn't point to a scheme problem. YET. I say "yet" because we have some game plans which have required our DL to be selfless occupiers instead of playmakers. I have no idea if that can pointed at, yet. Call me a yetman.I wonder if the negative effect on the defense is a systemic issue, bad luck, or a bad job by staff on retention. Higher demand for DL across college football means they get higher offers we can't match?
Seeing Kennard win the defensive Heisman, Ivey like top 20 in sacks, and now our leading pass rusher hit the portal is highly frustrating...
Just stay away from the macaroni and beef.2024 was our first year in this scheme so it wouldn't point to a scheme problem. YET. Yes I get the impression that impact defensive players (especially DL) are the highest demandHigher demand for DL across college football means they get higher offers we can't match?
I think it's plainly obvious both NIL and Portal benefit Georgia Tech football. For one, having the money out in the open helps us because we were bad at or unwilling to financially incentive players which is why we got smacked down for sweatshirts while other programs' booster networks got away with God knows what. What challenges? We are using NIL like a champ. Get the big uglies on the OLine and let the primma donna wide receivers waste money elsewhere. As for the portal, Haynes King has been a HUGE part of getting The Wreck out of the ditch (see ND graphic) and he is a portal guy. GT should be thankful every day for the portal and NIL.
Defense is probably easier to plug and play than offense,Yes I get the impression that impact defensive players (especially DL) are the highest demand
Yeah, don’t get me wrong, I wish college sports were played by true students and the mindset was you win some and lose some. But, since that ship has been gone for at least 70 years, I want my school to do what everyone else is doing and do it well because GT should always strive to do its best. Since I’ve been alive (55years) GT has not done that. We played by a different set of rules than every other D1 team in our part of the country except Vanderbilt. Every other school within a 5 hour drive of GT (UGA, Bama, Auburn, Clemson, South Carolina, FSU, Florida, Tennessee) have played by the modern standards and our brand has fallen from a top 10 brand in the 50’s to where we are today all because we stopped striving for excellence. The portal and NIL gives GT a chance to hit the reset button on our way of thinking about competition. Looks like we have a group of leaders who understand that.I think it's plainly obvious both NIL and Portal benefit Georgia Tech football. For two, Portal players are clearly not interested in education so it helps that both our recruiting and transfer prospects don't have to consider taking three years of Tech classes. I know they can take athlete courses, but there is still a Tech standard or at least a stigma that must've dissuaded at least a few prospects in the past.
I'd prefer all of NCAA athletics be truly 'student athletes' instead a farm program for certain greedy sports monopolies, but that ship has long since sailed and I think we're better positioned now with the NIL and Portal than we have been in ages.
And it is time for us to pony up. Atlanta is the 9th richest metro area in the country. GT is the only D1 school that is conveniently located in the center of it.Yeah, don’t get me wrong, I wish college sports were played by true students and the mindset was you win some and lose some. .... How do you know we aren’t ponying up?And it is time for us to pony up. Atlanta is the 9th richest metro area in the country. GT is the only D1 school that is conveniently located in the center of it.
Awesome!!How do you know we aren’t ponying up?
I'm looking at it as a triple threat. It's a guy that played at Holy Innocents, a guy that played at Miss St, and a guy that played at UNLV. Hopefully 1 of the 3 will show up when needed. Let the best one reap the rewards. What are we going to do with 3 new punters?
Oh, never mind, it's just the same punter in every post.
