35 Head Coaches make more than Paul Johnson

I've complained about certain aspects of his coaching, and sometimes d-bag personality, but I wouldn't trade him for another coach out there at GT. He brings an identity to a program that has unique challenges other schools don't have. He keeps us competitive. This year might be going down the drain, but I think he'll correct things and get things back on track. I've seen very few posters, none with a clue, calling for his head.

Did Dan Mullen just lose 3 in a row?

State has beaten Southern Miss, Northwestern State, and Auburn this year, and lost to A&M and LSU. They are 1-2 in conference.

Pretty much this.

This is how a 12 year old analyzes coach value.

I just think it's stupid to argue how undervalued a coach is when we're 2-3.

I don't think the guy should be fired, mind you. Far from it. He's earned at least 3 more years because of last season.

Dude. Seriously? The people who whine about how he can't get it done here and how much he sucks aren't implying that they think he should be allowed to continue doing so.

People complain about aspects of his coaching. I have yet to see anything suggesting he should be fired next year or anytime soon. Sewak is another story. So unless everyone says he is the perfect coach and he can't do anything better, they are implying that he shouldn't be allowed to do so?

There's a board for people like you and it rhymes with five.

Yes, that's what I'm saying. Anyone who isn't ecstatic with our current situation must want Johnson fired immediately. I'm already bored of this conversation. It would take another ten posts of back and forth to beat into your head what it is, exactly, that I'm saying and I'll pass on that but thank you very much anyway. Here it is quite simply and then you're free to beat it into yourself for as long as you like:

There are those who, following losses, whine and complain that Paul Johnson cannot and will not "get it done" at Tech. At present they are not vast in number and I did not claim them to be. Perhaps you just desperately want to argue about something which is why you've determined that I believe our entire fanbase is screaming for Paul Johnson's head when in fact I'm saying nothing of the sort. I don't care to pull up individual posts and argue with you over which ones are implying he should be fired or what, indeed, constitutes a call for firing though I'm certain that such a conversation would bring out the very best in this board.

I wonder what rank it would be if you took CPJ plus the highest paid offensive coach and compared that with all the other schools. I have to imagine that we get a helluva bargain when that is considered.

Considering that over the past 8 years we are probably about the 35th best team on average, this seems about right.

You think 35 teams have won 11 games and BCS bowls? You think 35 teams have won conference championships, or 3 division titles? I dont.

Also, how many of those teams ahead of us are football factories?

Do I need to fly down there and go BuzzCzar/Blazer on you?

Johnson's resume is on par or better than most of them, and he's doing it with 2 and 3 star players. I think Georgia Tech is getting more than their money's worth.

Bobinski should ask him how much we'd have to pay him for him to recruit 4 and 5 star players

Why don't you answer those questions? And we haven't won BCS bowls. We won one. Lets be honest here. We've had 2 great seasons with a handful of Gailey-esque years.

Since 2008 we are 61-38 for a 61.6% winning percentage. That ranks us #37th.

It seems he is getting paid about what he is worth. Why you butthurt over this comment?

That's a long way to say that Dan Mullen has not lost 3 games in a row.

Who has called for his head? Why are the defenders out feigning a perceived threat that simply doesn't exist? Look, there is no way to defend how unbalanced his classes are that has forced us to play a lot of true and redshirt freshmen. The injuries certainly haven't helped, but we went into this year with two a-backs, one receiver, and zero b-backs with any experience in the system. That's on Paul. Hopefully, he'll learn from it. So far, this year has been a disaster.

You don't hear much from people calling for his head because they get banned for doing so. I posted that CPJ should be fired and got banned for a week!. I'M SORRY I THOUGHT THIS WAS AMERICA!
then again I was trolling

This is America through the eyes of a man from a bankrupt island nation that is in constant civil war.

That is an interesting chart, I thought we were a bit better than that.

Also, the bipolar nature of this forum is crazy. Yeah, all fanbases are like this. But it's worth noting that our 2014 win over UGA came two years after our 2012 game against UGA, when many people here swore up and down that we had an FCS talent level.

Cliches can be cliches because they're accurate but people still don't understand them. It truly is "never as good or bad as it seems." It was absurd to say we had an FCS talent level in 2012, as shown by playing FSU close in the ACCCG and then beating USC.

It is because 2008 and 2009 spoiled us and now we expect every year is going to be like 2009. The other factor is that we fired Gailey because we were sick of being mediocre, so any regression toward mediocrity will just cause pain.

I don't think it's mediocrity. I think every fanbase wants to be Alabama, while Alabama wants to be perfect. Alabama had five turnovers against Ole Miss to zero for Bama.

In general, turnovers don't have the same consistency as gaining yards and first downs. Turnovers are more luck-based, and so Bama-Ole Miss looks just like a game that Bama would have won 9 times out of 10.

Still, you can listen to Finebaum talk (or push?) Bama fans off the ledge the next day. Sports fandom is utterly bizarre, where to be happy somebody else has to be sad. IIWII.

Pay the players what they are worth. ($25m - Operating Expenses)/105= $150000 - $30k cost of room & board = $120,000 = $10k/month.
