$8 million deal

So are you angry that pro sports get paid or something? I get the college sports anger but pro sports? They're supposed to get paid lots of money to entertain us.
No not angry they get paid. What I don't like is their pay scale when their contribution to society pales in comparison with teachers, truck drivers, etc.

He's probably not angry about pros, just not interested in that. I'm not either. For professional players, the scoreboard at the end of the game doesn't really matter, as long as they (individually) do well and get paid. Whether they play for the Falcons, Broncos, 49ers, doesn't matter. It used to matter a lot more in college, these were your guys and your team and they were there because they believed in Georgia Tech and representing the institute and wanted that prestigious Tech degree (or at least this is what we told ourselves). With NIL and transfer portal, nobody is committed to a school beyond whoever is currently willing to pay them the most, so it doesn't feel at all like they are representing Tech anymore except for the money. They don't care about the degree, about the school, its history or traditions. They are basically just Tech employees.

That's certainly an opinion you're entitled to (it's a free country after all) but for consistency you had better be mad at a lot more than professional sports players then. Actors and singers get paid insane money to entertain us and contribute to society the same amount as pro sports entertainment wise so I suppose you dont listen to music or watch shows? Corp officers run corporations into the ground and then get $25M pink parachutes for their efforts. I'm definitely pissed about this myself as you should be too. Anyway, the list goes on.

I like pro sports so I don't share your opinion about them but I do agree with you about college players no longer feeling like part of the school. Wholeheartedly agree with that take. I will take it a bit further, though. I think this really started once schools created "athlete friendly" majors where these kids are basically in 13th grade, not college. To me, a kid taking fake classes to remain eligible for your school isnt really part of your school. I suppose while this is true, if there's a 1 out of 10 success story for a kid that needed that scholly to escape the cycle of poverty/crime, maybe it was worth it? I dunno.

"could"
The lawyers quoted in this article are trying to pump their services. Show me the actual language of the contract, and the conditions for payment, and then we can evaluate how much money this kid is actually getting. Everybody talking like this kid is going to get $8 mil, is just falling for lawyers' blather.

I do agree that boosters forming 'collectives' to pay NIL is going to increase the amount paid to recruits. I never believed even T. Boone Pickens would pay millions to a single recruit. But 50 guys might pay $10k apiece.

Yet they bite the hands that feed them by ööööting on our country.

If this true ,the WHOLE college football /Bball scene is changed forever. We could have a "pro" upper division of 25? team in 5 trs. Tech very likely will not be one of them,

The better question is why aren’t we, Stingtalk, doing our own NIL that makes a mockery of the entire system. We need to collect a few grand and pay some bencher to promote something bordering on distasteful (or crossing the line).

So they should promote Stingtalk? I like the way you think.

He can just write mom jokes on a whiteboard.

College football and especially the SEC needs to understand what makes the NFL the dominant TV sport in the land is competitive balance. Every team plays by the same rules and budget. Every fan base has hope and come back engaged, year after year. College football has already consolidated to a few teams + the SEC. Once UT and OU join the SEC, the golden goose is dead. Nobody will bother watching as its pretty much pointless. Frankly I hope it all collapses and the SEC has only itself to play. Lets see how interesting that will be.
Ooo now you had to go and say that. I don't watch pro sports anymore much and the NFL was the worst offender with parity scheduling among other things. You want real parity, why don't you just redraft all players each year for the coming year. Now that would be ESPN worthy TV right there.
