AD search thread

Gimme Mike Buddie
evaluating administrators isn't very interesting.
Buddie sounds like he was good AD at Furman.I'm on board.
Cobb may not be bad.long years at app state
it would be good to avoid the "tech man" issues

Not surprising as he was Todd's buddy, got fired too (though that isn't mentioned), and was throwing öööö around his office and tearing öööö up until he was escorted out of the building.
Since you're on the AD search committee, want to fill us in on the latest GD news?

3 possible candidates - AJC

Ken Sugiura opining on 3 possible AD candidates:

Mike Buddie - Army
Charlie Cobb - GA State
Allen Greene - former Auburn

Definitely off the board:
Graham Neff - Clemson
Mark Rountree - former GT Deputy AD

Of those, Cobb and Buddie would be the most viable. Not impressed though.

No on Buddie, too unconventional program for what we need.

Yes on Cobb, he's got them in a pretty good place with bowl appearances and their own stadium considering they just started up football a couple years ago.

No on Greene. There's nothing going on at Auburn that makes me want that toxicity replicated here. Not sure what's been his fault or not, but I'd have to see a list of accomplishments to sway me on that one.

Not particularly interested in Neff, he's not proven enough at this point on his own with DRad just leaving in the last year. Being a "Tech man" isn't a good enough reason to hire someone, it's only valuable as a cherry on top of an already stellar resume. Not directed at Neff in particular, but this is a critical hire and we don't have the money Clemson does to provide a buffer for incompetency, we don't need candidates "1st time without training wheels" coming here to learn on the job.

No on Rountree. We need a clean break from Todd, does Rountree bring anything to the table we haven't already seen? He wasn't trusted as interim, not exactly a ringing endorsement.

Why did Allen Greene leave Auburn? Anyone know? I searched about it but didn't find an answer.

I just read, and my recollection confirms, TStan is the first AD at Tech to be fired.
Obviously the world of college athletics is changing rapidly. We went from the Dodd era of a retired football coach will be fine to now where it’s this complex mix of marketing and fundraising and staffing.

Auburn is a weird place, the boosters have a disproportionate amount of influence over everything. So Greene deciding not to stay as AD at a place where he really isn’t in charge is not surprising to me. However, he did bring in Harsin, which is not working, so that is a strike against him. Did Greene hire Bruce Pearl? That was a risk that seems to be paying off.
