AD search thread

This does not sound like much of a search list to me. It's to short with no real imagination. We need someone that has a success pattern and a vision for the future. We don't need a job jumper or someone that has not developed at the P5 level. There are assistant P5 AD's that surely would be viable candidates.

I'm hearing the exact opposite. And not Duncan either.
Last I heard was Duncan was nearly a done deal. The independent search firm could've uncovered some information during interviews to dissuade the committee, but I would be a little surprised.

I heard a lot of smoke around Duncan at one point too, but then I heard it was all just that - smoke. They are wanting someone who has an athletics background and experience. Who knows at this point.

You think that's the whole list GT is looking at? That's a list Ken put out. Also, there has to be mutual interest. I'm sure GT has some home-run names on their list, but that doesn't mean they'd be remotely interested in the job.

President AC said a lot of right things at his press conference, talked about winning and resources and all that. We find out with the AD hire how true that is, if he really meant it or if it was just smoke.

Why did Allen Greene leave Auburn? Anyone know? I searched about it but didn't find an answer.
Greene's contract was coming up at the end of the last football season. He asked for a new contract in September, and they told him he would have to wait. Harsin was already catching heat. So, he asked to negotiate a buy out to leave immediately. Auburn agreed.

However, he did bring in Harsin, which is not working, so that is a strike against him. Did Greene hire Bruce Pearl? That was a risk that seems to be paying off.
Jay Jacobs hired Pearl.

could we throw enough money at him to make it happen?

still think Ryan Bamford, who left Tech for UMass, should at least be considered.
someone else who I think has done a good job is Benko at Ga. Southern. Had been CFO for Miss. State AD, I think. He ain't afraid to fire a coach, either.

Benko just signed an extension, not sure if AD have buyouts like coaches do. If so it’s a 5 year little over $2million deal.

They do have buyouts - Tech just paid TS a little more than $300K to go away.
So those buyouts aren't at the level coaches get.

Jeff Bourne, James Madison. Was at Tech previously.

" was senior associate athletics director at Georgia Tech from 1997-99. At Georgia Tech, he supervised finance, marketing and promotions, ticketing, sports information, and radio and television broadcasts and production. He also was liaison to the Alexander-Tharpe fund"

I'm first in line to say no more litmus test for finding a "Tech Man", but his record at James Madison, Virginia Tech and Ga. Tech is an add since he knows the challenges.
