Thought I had someone lined up for UT, but he declined.

Got stuck in the elevator with a UGA fan and a Penn State fan. The UGA guy lamented being left out of the CFP selection. The PSU guy joked about lack of quality wins for UGA (including a solid jab at Notre Dame). The UGA guy said they haven't played any teams in the top 5 and you can't fault their schedule. The PSU guy sighed and let it go but you could tell he was thinking about top-5 Auburn's smackdown a couple weeks ago. The UGA guy joked that the SEC East is a joke and Tennessee can't give their HC job away. The PSU guy asked him who the defensive coordinator is at UGA. UGA guy paused for awhile and said Chaney. PSU guy just shook his head and ended the conversation. Classic.

Yeah I was discussing this with my buddy today and I’m dumbfounded that Doeren wouldn’t take the money while he can. He won’t be able to replicate the DL they randomly had this year. And they’ve done about as well as they could ever hope to this year with CU/FSU/UL in the division. His stock will never be hire than a month ago. Already declining and only gonna go down.

86% yes on Volnation right now. They'd be right to support him, too. Their problem is going to be that Sumlin has a lot of options. FSU could call him, for instance. Or anyone else in the nation, for that matter.
 
Mood at VN: Can't decide if they are happier that Doeren isn't their coach or sadder that they got rejected even by Doeren. Too good.
 
Current mood at VN: Starting to turn towards a mix of "we are too good for Sumlin" and "Sumlin isn't good enough for us", with a side of "you're racist, no you are". They are caught it some kind of thought loop over there and it's not going to end well.

I thought eventually this search would have to end in some conclusion that seemed reasonable from the outset and made this drama seem unimpactful in the long run, but if Sumlin turns them down then we are officially past that notion.

It may be that the Vols fans scared him away, too. Some people don't like to go where they aren't wanted, even for a raise.
