actually i read chan's contract and it clearly stated if chan was released of his duties for anything but a few described violations (and there was a detailed list of violations) that GT had to pay Chan the balance of his contract.

So really, Drad had no choice in the matter; he had to honor the contract as chan was fired for reasons outside the violations
 
So who is going to take Turner Gill? Syracuse and Auburn found coaches, but didn't highly consider Turner Gill who, in my opinion, is the next big thing. If he doesn't get picked up by anyone this year, I would expect Notre Dame to pick him up next year when they are firing the Stay Pufft Marshmallow Man.

He'd be too low profile for ND. They're going to make a run at Urban.
 
I'm actually embarassed for Auburn. This sucks bad.

They will never beat Alabama or Georgia with this guy.
 
This is probably a brilliant scheme that we are all missing...

Maybe he has a hot wife. It worked for Kiffin.

Maybe they are trying to show Miss State what a real doormat team is.

Maybe they, well, i have no idea...pretty dumb...
 
I really, honestly, seriously, with a straight face think they would have been better off hiring Chan Gailey. :o
 
Hopefully he does well.

I don't like the idea of AU looking for a great coach in a few years, and throwing more $ at him in the process.

Absolutely. Gailey would win 7-9 games there every year, and he would never beat Alabama.

That's probably much better than Chiz will do! :cool:

Not that I was ever worried, because of PJ's track record, but I have to eat some crow here. I thought Auburn was absolutely a better program than GT...in fact, I didn't think it was even close. I thought Paul would BRING GT above Auburn in the next two or three years, but I thought Auburn was a more desirable job right now. Clearly I was incredibly wrong. The problem is that I can't even take enjoyment in this terrible hire, because I have no beef with Auburn.
 
I grew up (and still am) an Iowa State fan - second now to GT of course.

Iowa State fans are both mad at Chizik for bolting and at the same time... he didn't win ONE Big 12 game this year. This could be a huge blessing. ISU fans are already throwing Turner Gill's name out there, which would be awesome. Would give him a chance to start beating his alma mater (Nebraksa) ever year.

As bad as he was at ISU, I think he'll be alright at Auburn. He didn't have much talent at ISU and was obviously a great DC before that.

I was as shocked as anyone else, though. Good luck, Auburn...

You gotta wonder what the Black coaches assoc. is saying now. Especially with AU's hire, that's a slap in Turner's face.

Be interesting is ISU goes after CTG now.
 
Auburn has managed to make a mockery of themselves in the public and alienate their fanbase in a span of two weeks. Congratulations are in order. :biggthumpup:
