Auburn has found itself a coach

I know. They will try again.

They can try again all they want to at lowering entrance requirements, but until they do something about the weather in SB there's not a chance in hell
of Meyer leaving!:laugher:

Meyer has called ND his dream job. You keep thinking he won't leave given the right opportunity.

You gotta wonder what the Black coaches assoc. is saying now. Especially with AU's hire, that's a slap in Turner's face.

Be interesting is ISU goes after CTG now.

That organization is down to what, 4 head coaches now? Its crazy to think football, which is at least 50% black in its players only has 4 out of 120 positions. There needs to be something done about that, I am just not sure what to do.

The problem is grad assistants. They get paid almost nothing, so they are predominately white ex-football players who have enough money (often family support) to make it through the lean first two years. The NFL doesn't have this problem, as NFL assistants get paid more. Hence, on a per capita basis, there are more black coaches in the NFL than college.

I don't think the gap is as big as people make it out to be. Most FBS coaches did not play D-IA football, and some (such as Mike Leach) did not even play college football. The pool of college players in all divisions in the 60's and 70's were overwhelmingly white, although not at the football powerhouses, and high school players were even more white.

But I think Turner Gill could, if he wanted to, file a racial discrimination lawsuit against Auburn and maybe win. I bet he'll take the ISU job instead, considering he played at Nebraska and knows the territory.

I think if I was Gill's advisor or mentor, I would have told Gill to think twice before taking the Auburn job. The AU job, with the powerbrokers who are there, and Saban's shadow gracing your campus, could be a real career killer for a up and coming young guy like Coach Gill. So I wonder if Auburn got cold on Turner Gill, or if it was the other way around.

What the Black head coach's assoc. needs right now is a black head coach who is a success. Not a coach who takes a bad high profile job out of desparation.

He would be an idiot if he did! UF has got to be one of the top coaching situations in the nation. IMO

+1. No need for affirmative action. Just pay grad assts 30K a year.

you might be onto something here. but what should also happen is the guys that jump to broadcasting need to drop the mike and get on the sideline.

the real problem is, there is way more job security in broadcasting than coaching, due to so many "win now and every year" fans

why would you do it?

I don't think I'll ever understand why a coach would take a job when the fans are against them from day one.

Why not stay on at Iowa State, build the program and then market yourself. Auburn is going to eat him alive and may end up ruining his career.

There just aren't going to be many opportunities offered to coaches whose resume consists of two smoldering piles of wreckage.

You can "ruin" my career all day long if you pay me what he's gettin'.!!!

plus, he will likely get bought out in about 3 years and then he will not only not have to work, but be getting good money for not doing so.

given the dire economic times, becoming a head football coach with the plan to 'resign' with a payout is a great financial strategy!

He makes some good points, but I dont agree with his point about black coaches only getting "SH***Y" jobs.

Karl Dorrel- UCLA
Ty Willingham- ND, Wash, Stanford
Sly Croom- Miss St
Randy Shannon- Miami
Ron Prince- K State

Last time I checked those were all great jobs except for maybe Stanford and Miss St. However, Stanford is very prestigious Pac10 school and Miss St was a perennial Top 20 team in the mid-late 90's. Both of those schools have the potential to be consistent bowl teams.

I do hope more black coaches get into Div I so that one day race is not even mentioned in discussions like this.

He should be bitch'n about them firing the good White coach. I know we beat their ass 2 times in a row, but he had beat Alabama, what 8 years in a row, got jew'd out of a N.C. shot, and had 1 bad year and couple mediocres.

When is Clark Atlanta and Morris Brown going to finally hire some White coaches and White band directors?
