Belichick to UNC?!

I don't really know what to make of it, if it happens. It's kind of hard to fault anyone for hiring one of the most accomplished coaches ever. But then again, you would think they would want to go a different direction since the last past-his-prime "legend" was pretty mediocre. Also not sure why Bellichick would want this job. I can't see him enjoying recruiting, but I guess in the age of NIL, traditional recruiting may not be as important. Maybe they plan to run it just like a pro franchise.

They will probably still average 6-6 seasons.

I think his son would be doing a lot of the work.

Hiring a 72 year old that has never coached college football or recruited to be your HC is crazy. Making this coach's son who has only 1 year of college experience (the only coaching experience he has had not under his dad) the coach in waiting as a requirement to the hire is just over the moon bat shit crazy.

Frankly, it seems to me that this is just a way for Belichick and UNC to give each other a bump in the media spotlight. Makes UNC seem like a more desirable coaching destination than it is and gets Belichick's name out there for HC opportunities.

It gets UNC a bump in the media spotlight, but honestly it makes Belichick look like he is getting desperate to get any consideration from anybody.

Belichick wants a NFL HC job so he can break Shula's all-time win record. If he can get an NFL job, he wants to hook up his son for a college HC job. There is no way that Bill Belichick is going to be out on the road recruiting 17-18 year old's or trying to placate college kids from going into the portal. His recruiting will be showing them his Super Bowl rings and talking about coaching Tom Brady.

Even from an X's and O's perspective, good NFL coaches have not always transferred as well to the college game as expected.

I suspect that UNC could get a short term boost from the portal by bringing in Belichick, but it will be a disaster in the long run. Anyone remember Bill Walsh (49er's HC great) at Stanford?

Hiring collins for any coaching position considering his body of work was crazy too, but that's UNC, what you are gonna do, I'm not surprised at all.

This will be a disaster for UNC.

Pro coaches don’t get the variability in the college game. You have to be more aggressive, because someone making a mistake is far more likely. I see Bill losing a lot of games because he was too conservative.

He is also going to see how much practice time simplifies his schemes. If he doesn’t, his schemes will be failures.

But might someone else now that he has put it out there?

I doubt it. I just don't see Belichick as a very attractive candidate for college HC. I think a lot of schools would be willing to pick up the phone, but I don't see any of them being willing to actually commit.
