Big changes coming for the pre-game festivities

He's right though. North Avenue is a ööööty side of the stadium and on campus edge. It isn't gonna attract any more sidewalk fans from Atlanta like he thinks. YJA where it is was successful and never the issue. YJA makes sense where it has been because the band enters on that side and the players enter on that side of the stadium.

Like I said, if I was UGAg, I'd plan to offload the band at our now former YJA just to troll longtime GT fans who pay a premium to park in Peter's Parking garage

Hurr durr I got tickets to Peters parking deck make the team walk through construction or I will be alienated!

ööööing morons.
Nobody will be walking through construction. We had YJA when a sorority house was getting built directly on the path. The Edge is not on the path. It is on the edge of the stadium 50 yards away.

A lot of the parking is on the north side, not sure if it's because it's closer to stuff or because there simply isn't any parking South. But there is also a lot that park on the west side and this shouldn't really be much of a distance change there. JJ being the biggest skyscreamer about this, but it might better for the student center folks

Yeah, after thinking about this for 3 days and giving it the proper consideration I don‘t see a way this will be a positive. YJA is pretty sparse now many games and that’s with the frats/sororities/and tailgating close by. I can see a quick u-turn on this after a couple of games. The good thing about JBatt and Key is that they seem to get it and will make adjustments as needed. So if this is about construction just say so and we’ll suck it up for a year. But don’t try to sell us something that we all know wont work. My son who is a current student even laughed at the idea because no one is walking to North Ave to tailgate.

It is a narrow staircase, compared to Callaway. I don't think you can fit the band there.
I haven’t inspected the hill in any detail, but they don’t have to be on the actual stairs as long as the hill isn’t too steep or too landscapes.

I have to think this would make a pretty good backdrop for a walk to the stadium. The band can play on the steps down from the Tower. The team busses can park along Cherry Street and let the team walk past the Tower through the band and past Knowles and down to the field level and locker room. I think it could make a pretty cool entry point and a much more picturesque photo op than a parking deck and concrete plaza. This angle just reeks of the history and tradition of GA Tech football.

Also don’t forget that this plaza is where the Tech (school and AA sponsored) big $$$ tailgate parties are held.

Here's an old map of Atlanta prior to Tech, and certainly BDS. I have placed BDS where it seems to go. Notice the creek that ran under Peters Park and BDS. I'm sure they installed a drain system for it when they built the park and historic Grant Field, but you can see why the hydrostatic pressure has led to flooding of the Peters deck in the past (and may still do so?). I don't know that they can dig down for an underground parking and reestablish Peters Park on top in a real cost-effective way.

They don't have to be, especially if North Ave is closed off where it borders campus.
I don't think they'll close N Ave all the way to Spring St anyway. My bet is they close it from Tech Pkwy to Techwood. They may even pull the closure a little further up in front of BDS to keep the parking open underneath Wardlaw for the big $$ folks. If nothing else, they can just have one lane there open for that and a guard checking credentials up at Techwood/N Ave intersection to let them in and still have the rest of North closed up to Techwood. That would allow the N Ave exit and Spring St entrance to still be used.

I park in A2. It is actually easier for me to get to the tower. That said, it is retarded to move it there and JBatt is a moron.

Dude you are bitching way too much about this. The primary reason is the Edge renovation, but he's trying to sell it and make it work, and if he succeeds, it will likely be a permanent change. If not, it will be moved back when the Edge is done.

This is my guess of what they will close off, and probably bring the buses down to the end of Tech Parkway and have the team do YJA down North Ave to the Wardlaw building.

Dressing rooms are under the North stands. If YJA is truly going to be on North Ave. it's going to be a heck of a walk.

I'm pointing out the ööööing obvious. GOL put it where it is because GOL isn't a dumbass like JBatt or you.

City of Atlanta is gonna be thrilled, especially since there is already an established, better option.

Having the Tower as a backdrop to the entrance could be pretty sweet, but…
If they would build a parking deck along North Ave. to replace the Peters deck (x2) and return Peters Park to a park, that would be sweet, too. They have managed to reclaim a lot of green space on the campus in recent years. Consider this another effort there. Does the Peters deck still flood?
Flooding wouldn't surprise anyone. PP is the bottom of a large "watershed" and stormwater pipes run under it as I think similarly run under Grant Field. They all run north towards Peachtree Creek. Remember in about 1993 when a sinkhole opened up early one morning in the parking lot that is at the hotel at 14 St and the connector? Same storm sewer system, I believe.
