New Brett McMurphy ACC Bowls Projections: (Dec 2, 2023)

Outstanding Issues for the ACC
  • Notre Dame: Will the Irish end up in the ReliaQuest Bowl? If so, will the Irish face LSU in the Brian Kelly Bowl or Tennessee, if the SEC sends the Tigers to the Gator Bowl instead?
  • Miami: The Hurricanes finished only 7-5, but they might be one of the nation’s most coveted bowl teams. Who wins the battle for Miami? It’s a battle royale between the Pinstripe and Sun Bowls.

This would be a slap in the face and typical of what happens to GT.
I had the thought that, any bowl, would be a good bowl, but not after finishing fourth in the conference.
I'm ok with GT in Birmingham but this is assuming FSU loses tonight which is doubtful to me and I hope they win for the ACC and money for us. I just saw Sankey (SEC Commissioner), the man who I wouldn't turn my back to and has done more to destroy college football than anyone else, and his pompous ass on TV. I think UGA wins but wouldn't it be great if the SEC were left out of the college playoffs. You talk about crying by SEC fans!!!!!! It would be GREAT.

From AJC:

On Wednesday, NJ.com reported the Pinstripe Bowl, a game played at Yankee Stadium between a team from the Big Ten and the ACC, will be selecting Rutgers (6-6) as one of its two participants. The game’s ACC rep will be either Tech, Boston College (6-6) or Miami (7-5), according to the report.

Georgia Tech could be picked to play in the Fenway Bowl, a morning kickoff Dec. 28 against a team from the American Athletic.

“Georgia Tech is a fantastic program with a tremendously passionate fanbase,” Fenway Bowl executive director Brett Miller said in a statement to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “While it’s still too early to tell where we’ll land with this year’s matchup, we’d be honored to have the Yellow Jackets play at the Wasabi Fenway Bowl. “We’ve had great conversations with the athletic department, and it’s very encouraging that they share our excitement about the prospect of playing a bowl game at the iconic sports venue of Fenway Park.”

The Jackets will be playing in their 46th bowl game in program history and first since 2018. Tech last won a bowl game in 2016.

Looks Like per Brett McMurphy that Pinstripe is trying to get Miami. If Pinstripe gets Miami and BC goes to the Sun Bowl, then GT in Fenway??

So reading between the lines... GT's Bowl destination is based on what bowl gets Miami (Battle Royal Between Sun & Pinstripe for da U)
The Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl versus Big Ten (4.4M)
The Fenway Bowl versus the American Athletic (2M)

With Syracuse, Georgia Tech, and Virginia Tech all slipping through under the wire, the ACC will send a whopping 12 teams to bowl games. This means that at least one ACC team will have to be sent to a Tier 2 location, or two teams if FSU loses against Louisville in the ACC Championship Game and misses the CFP and heads to a NY6 Bowl not named Orange vs Big10 Opponent.

Given BC’s recent history of often being the odd school out, and with BC fan interest at a lower level than normal, it does seem that the Eagles could be sent two Tier 2 and play an earlier game.

With that reality in mind, I’m officially predicting that Boston College will go bowling in the First Responder or Birmingham Bowl or the Gasparilla Bowl. (The contract states that one of these bowls will provide 1 slot for the ACC team if needed)

But if that doesn’t happen and BC remains in Tier 1, then the two likeliest locations for them to end up are the Fenway Bowl or the Pinstripe Bowl. Slim chance for the Sun Bowl!

I’m told at this point the Sun Bowl absolutely wants Miami,’’ McMurphy said. “The biggest thing for the Sun Bowl is TV ratings.’’

The Dec. 29 (2 p.m.) Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas or Dec. 28 (2:15 p.m.) and the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium in New York appear to be the likeliest UM destinations, with bowl experts Brett McMurphy of ActionNetwork.com and Jerry Palm of CBSSports both projecting UM against the Pac-12 opponent. McMurphy has the Canes playing Oregon State (8-4) in El Paso. Palm has them playing Utah (8-4).

“It’s the one that made the most sense to me,’’ Palm said.

I would rather be on a football field, and I would rather go to Birmingham, Mobile, or Shreveport than any city north of Washington, D.C. Even Annapolis would be huge improvement over these projections.
Need to win seven games a season to get your wish! (Gator, Duke's Pop Tarts) as far as playing in a Tier 2 bowl before Christmas while that may help a few fans and alumni travel, it is really crappy for SA (they lose out on gifts and quality experience)... Who really cares about pre christmas bowl game in Tampa/Dallas or Birmingham??? Again if that is were we land, hopefully GT brings 20K, but data doesn't support that... GT has 5-10K travel to bowl games.
