Bowling!

I’m trying to will the Gator Bowl into existence, but looking at the ACC: 11 teams will likely be bowl eligible.

1. FSU to the playoffs
Then no ACC in the Orange
2. Poptart probably chooses ND
3. Holiday takes Clemson or Louisville
4. Gator takes the other (if I had to guess, Clemson to Gator)

So then you have GT, NCSU, Miami, UNC, Duke, VT, and BC for the 5 tier 2 bowls. Of that group, I would guess GT, NCSU, Miami, UNC are the most attractive. VT might get military or BC could get Fenway based on geography. So I could see:

5. Mayo takes NCSU (geography)
6. Sun takes GT
7. Pinstripe takes Miami
8. Military takes VT
9. Fenway takes UNC

That leaves BC and Duke.
10. Duke to First Responders
11. BC to Gasparilla

Wouldn't surprise me. The Sun seems to like us and it's been 11 years.

With Nebraska’s loss, the Pinstripe will surely have RU or MD as the B1G team.

Also, I’ve read in a few places that ACC bowls do not have a selection order. I’m no expert, but it seems our high conference finish doesn’t mean anything with respect to bowl game destination. If someone knows something contrary to that, please post.
In all, the ACC will annually have 10 guaranteed bowl berths in 2020-25.

ACC SELECTIONS ORDER

College Football Playoff
Orange Bowl
versus SEC/ND/BIG10

Tier 1: The ACC and its bowl partners will make team selections based on several factors, including geographic proximity, avoiding repeat appearances and matchups, and regular-season won-loss records.

Reliaquest Bowl (Tampa, Florida) – Only if the ACC’s opponent in the Capital One Orange Bowl is from the Big Ten. Formerly Outback Bowl)
Duke’s Mayo Bowl Game (Charlotte, North Carolina)
Pop Tarts Bowl (Orlando, Florida) [formerly Cheez it & Camping World Bowl]
Fenway Bowl (Boston, Massachusetts)
Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman (Annapolis, Maryland)
New Era Pinstripe Bowl (New York City)
San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl (San Diego, California)
TaxSlayer Gator Bowl (Jacksonville, Florida)
Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl (El Paso, Texas)

Tier 2: ESPN Events and the following bowls will collaborate on the selection of one ACC team.

  • Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl (Tampa, Florida)
  • Birmingham Bowl (Birmingham, Alabama)
  • SERVPRO First Responders Bowl (Dallas, Texas)

1. FSU - CFP
2. Louisville - Orange vs BIG10
3. Notre Dame - ReliaQuest
4. NC State -Pop Tart
5. Clemson -Holiday
6. Maimi -Gator
7. UNC - Duke Mayo
8. GT - Sun
9. DUKE - Pinstripe
10. Boston - Fenway
11. Military

We need VT or Cuse to win to fill our Military Bowl obligations, If VT & Cuse get Bowl eligible then 1 ACC team will play in ESPN events Tier 2 Bowl

I don’t think FSU to the playoff is as certain as you guys think.
Doesn’t really matter for us in my bowl prediction. FSU to Orange and the rest plays out. If Louisville wins, they go to the Orange, FSU to Poptart, ND to Holiday, and the rest is the same.

ACC Bowl Order of Selections for 2023 per The San Diego Union-Tribune

1. College Football Playoff (Rose or Sugar Semifinals)
2. Orange Bowl
In years where the Orange Bowl does not host a CFB Playoff game, the ACC champion (if not in the playoff) will play the highest-ranked team from the SEC, Big Ten, or Notre Dame in this game.

3. Reliaquest - If a Big Ten team plays the ACC in the Orange Bowl, an ACC team will fill (Note: Notre Dame is eligible for consideration in the ACC's bowl tie-ins after Orange Bowl)

4. The First Tier
Note: In the ACC, the Holiday Bowl, Gator Bowl and Pop-Tarts Bowl all submit their top three choices. If all three bowls select different schools as their top pick, then they get that team. If there is overlap, then the conference and bowls work things out.

Pop-Tarts (Has first selection of these three bowl games)
Holiday
Gator

5. Second Tier
Duke's Mayo
Sun
Pinstripe
Military
Fenway

6. Third Tier
The ACC is expected to have a team selected for only one of these bowls: Gasparilla, First Responder or Birmingham.

Final ACC Bowl Projections with Cuse & VT (as they are Bowl Eligible)

FSU: CFP
Louisville: Orange vs Big10
Notre Dame: ReliaQuest
Winner UNC/NC State: Pop Tart Bowl
Clemson: Holiday Bowl
Loser Winner UNC/NC State: Gator Bowl
Miami: SUN
Duke: Pinstripe
GT: Duke Mayo (vs Auburn)
Boston College: Fenway
VT: Military
Cuse: Birmingham Bowl/First Responder/Gasparilla

Looking at bowl projections and one had GT in the Pinstripe bowl and Cuse in the Birmingham bowl. That seems stupid. I think you would get more sales flipping the two. And I don’t think hotels are going to be a factor. You aren’t getting a significant number of stays with those teams the way they are.
