Brent Key presser

The only chance that Key ends up with the job permanently is if he gets us to being bowl eligible and manages to win in Athens. If he does that, I'm all for giving him the job.

If the boosters decide they want Key, all they have to do is not come up with the money for another coach.

Well that's sort of my point too.. his ultimate goal is to be a HC one day and most likely wants to do it at his alma mater. Hell even if he wins 3-4 of the last 8 it's a vast improvement over what we've had, and he very well could end up being good HC material but the aftertaste of Geoff won't allow us to keep him unless he is wildly successful.

Yep. I just don't see how he will be successful here or anywhere else without top tier talent. His coaching resume thus far is not good--simply making this dysfunctional GT team competitive and not beating themselves/showing decent clock management, etc. would help him find another job. We'll see; I'll be there.

As you said, he could end up being a good HC. I don't think we want to take a gamble on that right now off of a partial season. So he can go show that potential as a HC somewhere else (probably at a lower level) for a few seasons and then we can talk about him coming back.
Hell, if our OL suddenly improves one could speculate it's because Key doesn't have enough time to mess with them. It'll be really hard to put much trust in the coach of one of the most consistently bad units on the team, which is also the only position he has demonstrated success in the past.

I actually feel sort of bad for Key. If he truly has been hamstrung by Collins this whole time and makes great progress the rest of this season with this team (and specifically the OL), he's still likely canned unless the new coach wants him and he still wants to stay after being passed over for the job, which is unlikely. He'd have to basically win out for fans to be satisfied with him staying on as HC because we all want new blood. If Collins proves to have been the sole biggest problem in the organization, we could rattle off 5-6 wins out of the last 8 and make a bowl but that likely won't be good enough to keep Key around.
If his OL was held back by Collins, he should have resigned and privately communicated his observations to the appropriate people. Why would he allow Collins to damage his reputation, his offensive linemen and his alma mater?

Should be around 11 or so. Hopefully the interim AD will be there as well

Hopefully Key will announce Thacker's firing and name two new coaches as his first order of business.
any idea where this presser will be viewable?
if not then i guess it will be posted on ramblinwreck afterwards

All these highly hopeful "predictions":

Or maybe he picked his guys for new offensive staff, get them to sabotage the first few games until he takes over? There's plenty of other tinfoil theories out there as well.

It should be up on youtube this afternoon. It's not live this time. Kelly Quinlan is tweeting quotes as they come out though... and it sounds like Cabrera is on board with making athletics a priority at GT. I hope he's just not saying what folks want to hear and goes through with it.

He 100% picked the new offensive staff. Sabotaging the first few games is a bit too tinfoil for me.

Has Long's offense looked anything like we expected, and have you seen us have success doing some things then completely go away from them? I don't believe it to be true but a case could be made.

Long's offense has been exactly as effective as I expected and posted about on this board pre-season.
