Cabrera going HAM

Hogwash. With the academic support athletes have in place now, you have to try to fail or be legitimately mentally handicapped (IQ < 80).
Indeed. This is one of the biggest myths propagated by those on the outside who don't know öööö about Tech. Also, why does everyone make an inverse correlation between athleticism and intelligence?

I do, however, think we should get rid of the calculus requirement for those majors where it is not necessary. I started my career as an engineer and took 2 years of calc. I now work in finance and I can tell you I don't remember a damned thing about it now.

Im sure some are making that correlation, but also to win at the highest level you are going to be recruiting guys that are only going to be playing school for 3 years and then into the NFL, those guys would probably prefer an easier course load even if they wouldnt have a problem passing Calc if they put in the work.

Its my understanding about the calc requirement we would have to start handing out BA's

We have the M-Train, what more do athletes need?
It's all relative. M-Train >>> Home Econ at (fill in the blank). Plus as long as we don't have a few fields of study that players can identify with, it will be effectively used against us.

I know. It was a bit of a joke towards all of those M-Train'ers reading along.

But certainly our couple dozen majors can't compete with schools that have nearly a hundred different majors to choose from.

Ever wonder why you can’t remember seeing many football, basketball, etc players in your Calculus class? It’s because any of the players needing a bit more leniency don’t take their Calculus classes at GT.

And baseball players say "man, I can't help with the project this weekend, I got a weekend series at Auburn."

The breadth of majors seems to be much more of an issue than Calculus. Not sure what other majors could be added that keep within the school's technological focus (that would also be approved by the BOR).

Almost every occupation now has technological aspects. And the ones that dont could probably benefit most from a degree in the subject that has a technological focus.

If UGA can add an engineering degree, it is asinine that we can't add basically anything at this point. Take every degree and add "Technology" or "Science". They offer a Bachelors of Education? Offer a Bachelors of Education Science. Same degree but with a focus on using technology to teach students. Cutting edge remote learning of course, but also "quizziz" as well as higher order more interactive learning systems. Study how these tools work, how effective variations of them are, and how they can be improved. We could be the world leader in a very, very important topic almost overnight.

There are some bigger things that could be done if we had a visionary AD that had pull at the BOR. The easiest hard thing is that we need a second medical school in the state system because we need way more doctors and nurses and there is money in it. So the system should build a medical school, probably somewhere in north atlanta. UGA desperately wants MCG, and they should get it and we should get the new medical school. MCG degrees would be UGA degrees and the new school would give GT degrees.

Probably late for a meeting with the landscape company to put the sod back in Grant Fiels
I know everyone hates the turf and loves the grass, and I do too, but before we get stuck on that like rain man, can we let the new AD come in and assess the situation?

There was a huge opportunity wasted to have massive concert series as well as one-offs at grant field that could be used to turn a profit for the AA but more importantly to help with GT's image and branding.

My impression is that there are actual concert venues (like Gwinnett Arena) that aren’t hosting many big shows right now. (They used to have U2 and Springstreen and now it looks like they have a lot of Latin guitar players or something.) I assume it’s hard to get into the concert venue business in a big way, especially post-Covid, although we’ve hosted some good one-offs over the years.

The competition for headliner concerts is stiff, yes. But let me throw out some suggestions:

There are a lot of towns that have free summer concert series of smaller has-bens and people you never heard of. The vast majority of people go not because of the band itself, but because it is the thing to do. Of course given our location in Midtown, IMHO, that would mean a concert series with overwhelmingly local black artists. It is very likely you could work out a deal with the city to subsidize the costs but let GT make all the concessions and parking and whatnot money.

In other words, have a concert every friday after work or saturday afternoon during the summer with local black artists (rappers mostly i would guess) and make bank on the concessions and parking and whatnot and promote our brand.

Free might not be the right option, but the cost would be non-prohibitive.

And/Or, perhaps there is an opportunity for a "black lollapalooza" with all day sat/sun acts. Probably several a year would be possible. The costs would be a lot less than anywhere else because you could almost fill a quite impressive lineup entirely with local artists. No flights/hotels/limos etc. Kids wear concert Ts, and the T from this concert would have a huge GT on it. Having a city full of kids running around to school and the mall and wherever with GT on the shirt would really start amping up our brand.

I don't give a single öööö about having a concert at BDS. They have GSU to have them

Wasn’t Music Midtown looking for a new venue? Big stages in BDS and McCamish, smaller stages at Peters Park and Rusty C, all sorts of booths scattered around. Do it right after baseball season.

You have been known to have really, really stupid opinions and have been documented to make really. really stupid decisions, which we are not allowed to talk about here, brandon. So STFU.

I don't care about concerts at all, where you go to them constantly. I certainly would not go to a rap lollapalooza. This has nothing to do with concerts per se and everything to do with moving way, way up in the money arms race that is college football. If it meant I could make say 20 million a year to pay the salaries that would make the basketball team a perennial sweet sixteen team, I would rent out the tit as a strip club or for cirque de soleil or literally whatever. Our most valuable asset/advantage by far is our location, and we don't seem to have any interest whatsoever in using it to our advantage.
