Can the AA afford $1.8 million?

Things to consider:

1) the top-notch recruits we are finally getting seem to really like Gailey
2) All GT losses over the last 4 years were to bowl-bound teams.
3) GT has one of the best ACC records over the last several years.

I see your point, but as a fan I expect the best from my team.

1) We don't have the "top-notch" recruits. Yes, we have some good ones, and some potentially great ones, but how many 5-stars?

2) I would prefer that we count our wins over bowl bound teams rather than losses

3) Why can't/shouldn't Tech have THE best ACC record?

1) True, we don't have USC-caliber recruits with multiple 5-stars athletes, but compare the last two classes to the previous 10 or so. We were averaging 50th overall but now we're in the top 20. I would love to have tons of 5 stars just as much as I'd love a toilet seat made of gold. Also, if Gailey is gone, will the next coach be able to continue bringing in a top 20 class? Recruits like to see continuity in coaching staffs and I fear a change could disrupt the recruiting momentum we've gained the last 2 years. It might improve but there's a much larger chance it would decline.

2) My point about losses only to bowl bound teams is just to show that we aren't losing to nobodies, our losses (with questionable players, coaches and play-calling) have all been to teams with winning records. Spin that however you'd like.

3) I would love to have the best ACC record and Tech can do it. But there are 11 other teams (okay, maybe 8 others) in the conference who are striving for the same thing. Finishing 2nd or 3rd amongst them is not a total loss or a valid reason to fire a coach IMO. If we are continually below average, then yes, a change is necessary.

It's a lot easier to point out shortcomings but we are a far cry from a crappy team. We did just beat a #15 team that was undefeated with an offense that couldn't put together a passing attack. There is a lot of upside potential.

Agreed, and all good points...I'm just here with the counterpoint. This is a discussion board after all

GT has the longest streak of .500 or better seasons in the ACC. And the 2nd best (maybe 3rd if BC has passed us, it was 2nd going into this year) ACC record since the conference was expanded to 12.

1) You're seriously chasing your tail if your expectation is to have 5-star athletes on the roster.

2) We have many of those, too.

3) Look at my last post - we're very close to the top (with a chance to be at the top by the end of the year)

I don't see why we can't have one or two five stars on our recruiting list.

I know we have plenty of good wins as well, but I'm not happy with going to the computer bowl, so why would I be happy knowing that the team that beat us went to the computer bowl? the term "Bowl Bound" just doesn't mean that much to me unless it's a BCS bowl.

All I know is this: There have been coaches fired for much less than what Gailey has produced. There have been programs with less talent, less support, and less tradition passing us up in the last few years.

I can't believe some of you guys want to ride Gailey out until he produces a losing season.

Two things. We haven't been to a BCS bowl since 1966 so life is too short to be miserable for 40 years and perhaps another 30 or 40. If we go to 3-5 BCS bowls the rest of my realtively young life that will be a lot more than the generation before me has seen.

Secondly, the ACC's bowl tie-ins suck so this is what we get for being in the ACC. If we were still in the SEC, we would have better bowl tie-ins and perhaps would have been to much better and more varied bowls the last few years but we are in the ACC. If you want out of the ACC, then take it up with Rad and he might be willing to try one mre time to get back in the SEC.

I think the thought is how much better or worse are Ole Miss, Miss. State, NCSU, UVA, MIA, MINN, etc. that they were before they forced their coach out and doubled the new guy's salary.

Consistency means a lot at GT. If Gailey left for the pros and we kept most of the staff in tact, I would be fine with that but a new regime at GT always takes 2-3 years to learn the school, the players, the requirements, etc. I'd personally prefer 8-4 over 2-9, 4-8, etc.

That being said, I think Gailey leaves for the first NFL job he gets offered which may be after this season if he can go 8-4 or better.

Hasn't Gailey already publicly stated that if he gets offered an NFL job he will take it?

IMO, have at it Chan. I like what the rest of the coaching staff is doing or at least trying to do..but for some reason it just seems like you are holding them back.

One might mention ND as well - remember the shining beacon that once was Weis?

I don't think Gailey will leave for just any NFL job, but actually, I doubt he'll get offers unless we win out.

If Chan gets offered an NFL HC job, it's going to be because he did such a good job with us that people want to hire him, and we're not going to want to let him go. Visa versa, if he does such a crap job that we want to let him go, he won't be getting any NFL offers. The scenario of "He leaves for the NFL when we want him to" doesn't exist.

This is very real:

Alabama just paid 12 million for a coach who didn't beat Georgia.
