Catchall FSU Gone/Snubbed/White Knighting Thread

Because they didn't opt out. How dense are you? UGA had players who declared for the NFL draft and the portal make the trip to the game. And yes, you can declare for the draft and still play in the bowl game apparently. I guess they just had to delay signing with an agent?

I might be a little dense. From what I see, Georgia had 20 players enter the portal and not make the trip for the bowl game. I'm really unsure as to why they would not be considered as opting out.

I guess it's because if you enter the transfer portal you're not allowed to play in the bowl game, but it still seems to me like they are abandoning the team before the bowl game just like players leaving for the NFL are.

Plenty of sources, here's one: https://www.dawgnation.com/go43n23/...ival-brock-bowers/ES4CV6QUUVH6RMYDZ4RKVKPOYI/

I think you're right that its just the eligibility. To what other have posted, most portal guys are leaving because they're not starting. fsu has 9 starters decide to skip the game? Hard to have half of your starters skip and win with your 3rd string qb.

If ESPN literally pays SEC players in violation of NCAA rules specifically to ensure they beat ACC teams, my guess is FSU (and any other ACC team) would be able to leave without paying any money.

I'm not a lawyer, but that feels like something that would violate some sort of good faith clause in the broadcast contract.
It’s tortious interference with contract.

So a circle jerk is bad, but you wanting to öööö Kirby is a sign you're a better GT fan?

No implications on Tech fandom on my part. I just don’t understand the rapid decline in the volume of uga hate around here recently. But more alarming than the decline in uga hate are the nerds trying to get a seat at the cool kids table and defending uga. Enjoy your wedgies nerds. We’ll take you back when you realize your wrongs.

For sure. FSU had way more players opt out, and way more important players opt out, than U[sic]GA. No disputing that. They had a shot at a split national title and rolled over instead.

I just find it weird to hear over and over again that Georgia had no players missing or quitting on the team for the Orange Bowl when they have 20 players who did not participate in the Orange Bowl because they wanted to transfer. Like it's legitimately confusing to me.

Probably it's just ESPN and other SEC allies trying to build the narrative of SEC teams being "built different" than others and everyone is falling for it.

The SEC: It just means more.......money.

I would never defend U[sic]GA but I will say it's less fun to hate on them when they are winning so much. Glad they missed out on the playoffs but making fun of them for that is not really enjoyable compared to when Richt was there and they were never able to win the big one, and we were actually competitive with them.

If Key gets us even close to their level and we actually have a shot at competing with them on a yearly basis, you'll see the hate start to bubble back up. But it's going to take a while for it to be like it once was, if it ever is again.

From your source:

Right. And that same soure also says that Georgia has a bunch of players opting not to play because they want to transfer.

So what I am saying is that I don't understand why everyone is saying that 1) Georgia has no opt outs and 2) Georgia has a bunch of players deciding not to play beause they want to transfer. The two don't really match up to me.

If you decide not to play because you plan to play football somewhere else next season and don't want to get injured, that's opting out, regardless of whether next season is NFL or a different college team. At least in my opinion.

Quote where says Georgia has a bunch of players opting not to play because they want to transfer. The had 18 players announce for the portal; that does not mean those 18 opted out of the Orange Bowl like some internet sites assumed. Your cited article even says this about one of the portal entries:

Place kicker Jared Zirkel is listed here, but he will take care of Georgia’s kickoff duties on Saturday.

Unfortunately gameday rosters aren't available online as far as I can tell, but at least one is easy to verify. Vandergriff never took a snap despite being their #2 QB all year and them playing three quarterbacks during the game.

I guess the NFL scouts and other CFB teams must be a part of the ESPN narrative as well? Come on guys. There is no “narrative” about the athletes in the sec vs B1G, ACC, B12, P12 during the year. What is said comes from teams scouting in the CFP, etc. Sark also mentioned Texas was not built for the sec when he arrived. Venebles said the same thing about Oklahoma. What separates the top of the sec vs other teams is the depth.

The NFL Draft is the true indicator of team followed by conference talent.

We didn’t really watch either. We were having our Stingtalk staff New Year’s party and taking shots of sake and drinking champagne. The game was just background noise.

It's a silly argument over semantics.
