Chan had better be careful....

Mark it down. Dreams of Whisenhunt or Paul are just that.

I tend to agree but just wonder if Fisher would really leave FSU like this. Perhaps, he Rad, and Bowden had an agreement on Monday and they're just waiting.

I am fine with Fisher and think he would keep most assistants and GT would be in good shape. I would even be excited with this scenario.

thwg, I do not believe you can hire someone and tell them who they can hire or fire.
Suggestions maybe.

IMHO, Johnson is on everyone's radar, but for some bizzare reason most of the teams seem to be getting their top candidate. Johnson CANNOT be the top candidate IMHO because the fans need to understand that the high profile candidates turned them down to get past that and fully support a new coach who currently runs a boring offense.

this is true for us as well. If Fisher wasn't a candidate we would need to whiff on Spurrier, Grobe, and Whiz (for example) before 'settling' with Johnson.

Don't hitch up your horses to that comment quite yet.

IMO his O philosophy is the reason some AD's may have some doubt as to whether he can ajust it to a BCS conference which in IMO he'll have to in order to be sucessful.
IMO his O is not boring but I understand others like a high powered passing O. Just for thought, Whiz would probaly run pretty much the same O that we currently have which is balanced but to run first.

I'm right there with you. Wins come way first. Style points matter very, very little to me.

I agree but someone like Fisher would not hire just anyone and clean house as he would nee dsome time to put together a staff. Hence, I think he would be inclined to keep the current staff as he he not staff to bring with him per se. Johnson, otoh, would bring most of his staff from Navy i would suspect.

I think Jimbo would keep 80% or more for one year and then make a few more changes after the season when he would have tike to adequately review the current staff. I don't think anyone would tell him what to do but keeping the current staff in place would just be the most logical decision for at least 12 months IMO.

GTCrew or hivered what's your take on why the other schools looking this year haven't been on Paul Johnson?

From what I understand, Paul Johnson lacks offensive prowess...runs a "high schoolish" type of offense that would not attract top athletes as it particularly lacks in passing creativity...and lacks recruiting skills. Over his career his offense has consistently averaged about 100 yds. in the air...with 300 on the ground. Yardage is yardage...but many believe a creative passing game is necessary to win a BCS conference.

I have to admit I have not spent a lot of time watching his offense over the years so it is hard to say.

Do not confuse Paul Johnson's offense with the "gimmick" offense Jim Grobe had been accused of carrying around.

One bad call does not make a career.....but I will also add that Paul Johnson made a really bad call by pitching the ball deep in his own backfield against BC in the bowl game this year....when all he had to do was handoff directly and secure the ball, thus running the clock out. Instead, they pitched it back deep in their own backfield and lost almost 20 yds. on the play in addition to the ball. BC only needed one first down then to get in FG position and win the game.

he would be inclined to keep the current staff as he he not staff to bring with him per se.

I agree - who would Gailey take with him? Ya gotta assume JT, but I doubt he would take Nix with him....

If Fisher came in I think that it would be unlikely that he would make many changes to the staff because:

1. Where are you going to find a better DC than Tenuta? And some of our best recruiters are the D staff (Smith, Jean-Marie).

2. Fisher was Nix's QB coach at Auburn. I wouldn't mind seeing a new OC, but with the pre-existing relationship I am not sure it will happen. Modkins seems to do a good job. Geis would probably leave with Gailey.

If Gailey went to Miami, they already have Dom Capers who I believed coached with Gailey at Pittsburgh. If he goes to Pittsburgh, there is no way they will let him replace Dick LeBeau. And I don't think Tenuta would go to the NFL for less than a coordinator position.

Not true.

The big problem is many people just cannot accept the fact that football is a career for coaches and players....unlike the fact it is something emotional (a game) for us as fans. We already have a career.

Just like it made since for Calvin to leave the Georgia Tech family early....it could make since for any coach to do so.

CG's current package is a lot of money...he would make just over $5 million over the next 5 years. However....two companies that he knows and is comfortable with is talking packages worth $15-$20 million probably over 5 or 6 years. That is a substantial difference that can financially secure his family for 2 generations....and his kids are grown so they do not even have to endure a family move.
A million a year in todays world of college coaches is not a lot of money. To you and me --yes , but to Division 1 coaches --no.

Just to try to make a point...

I don't recall Md's ACC title being outright, but it may have been. I recall it being backed into. Also, did Fridge exceed our ACC record from this year? ever? I recall Md fattening up 10 win seasons on a mostly embarrassing OOC schedule but I could be wrong... (full disclosure is that I do 'advocate' an easier OOC schedule.)

A second point...
I would not be comfortable whatsoever with Md as a fan right now. While I have been accused of 'accepting mediocrity', what I really have as a minimum is for continued improvement. As George used to say you either move forward or backward. Md has not shown continued improvement while I believe GT has. A lesser key is improvement in recruiting. Fridge has not mastered this either IMHO. At this time, which team has proven more in the current ACC? And finally, which team will be higher rated TODAY?

I am totally impressed with Fridge's 10 win seasons. But RIGHT NOW there is no way in hades I would trade coaching staffs.
I think the Fridge hasnt done anything the last 3 years. But we had a chump schedule ovrall this year and a 9win out of 14 isnt any better. I believe we have been status quo for 5 years. I think b/c of the success Fridge had early the expectations got crazy up there. All we have wanted was to go from Peach and Gator to a BCS game in the last 6 and we havent. Disappointing to say the least.

so Mora gets fired for saying he would be interested in another job while posting an average record. Chan gets ???? for actually interviewing for other jobs while posting an average record

I hope he gets one of these stinking jobs.

If he doesn't and the recruiting clas falls apart, fire him the day after signing day.

Agreed and well said.

I think it is time for many to understand that it may be a likely possibility that The 'Ich and CG hit a wall, or that Dan has always had his ideas on running this program.
I believe Dan made the comment that any significant change would not happen until the end of the season, after he had the time to evaluate the program. My opinion only.

hivered, what you and crew say is pretty much what I had thought. I personally think it's his offensive philosophy. I also agree he will not be able to recruit those high profile QB's and WR's if he would continue to use his O of today in the BCS most think that SA's coming in want to play in an offensive situation more consistent with the NFL.

Let's be honest, at his age and health, this would be Chan's last chance to get a head coaching job in the NFL. If he comes back, like Kryzshefski (sp), it's for the long haul. Apparently, he wants to make sure that the NFL is out of his blood and honestly, these are probably the only two teams who would consider him, unless Jerry Jones had another drunken epiphany.

The Pittsburgh interview was today, DRad should push for an answer by Monday or Tuesday at the latest.

For what it's worth, nearly all D-1 teams will be finishing up their assistants over the next week. The coaches convention that was this past week is the place where coaches go to network and interview for new jobs. If this drags out another week, it will be significantly harder for a Jimbo Fisher to do anything but keep the current staff in place.

As for Chan taking anyone with him, it is highly unlikely. I don't believe any of the assistants have significant NFL experience. As far as Tenuta, with LeBaueu (sp) and Capers already in place, I would doubt that there is a DC position open with either situation.

I think you are right PDub. Gailey appears to have his skirt ruffled either by the overall embarrassment and outrage over the RB/TB affair or because D Rad has turned up the heat on him. He's kinda acting like a pouting prima donna now with an "I'll show them" mentality.

I don't think he get's the job and he is erodinng support from within his base. Some of his strongest supporters respect him as much for his character and loyalty as much as they do his coaching ability. This is bothering that crowd more than his QB development.

It looks like I was wrong. Chan's strongest supporting have regrouped - now blaiming his lack of loyalty on the negativity of the fanbase in one form or the other - reaching a new low IMO. Must admit, didn't really see this coming
