chernoff and Gailey exchanged strong words on 790

The UGA answer could have been thought up better...

Was he supposed to talk about Bilbo and Suggs in response to that question?

Yes, the Uga answer could have and should have been better. Number one, he's had six seasons to come up with one. Number two, he has been asked enough times to have come up with a prepared answer.

And yes, he could have talked about Bilbo and Suggs. Chernoff specifically mentioned both of them and went into specific detail about how Bilbo never really panned out and went back and forth between QB and receiver. I had the exact same question then and now: how did that guy never pan out? He was an amazing athlete! And honestly, I've had a nagging concern that Nesbit is headed for the same fate simply because I've never seen anyone "blossom" in our offense over their career.

It seems to me that we are becoming a graveyard for QB talent. I've lost count of the QBs who have come into our system that have either transferred, moved to a diff position or just never got better.

Nesbitt and Threet are my last hope. Last.

Chuck Oliver did a good job of tempering the interview and restating both of their opinions. Chan was right. Chernoff said that the statistics showed that the QB(s) didn't improve. Chan said that was true about the statistics, but they don't show the games the QB(s) helped win.

RB in particular improved in his decision making when it came to forcing a ball in to coverage as opposed to throwing it away. The INT/TD ratio bears that out.

As for the UGA game, his response was accurate. It means more to some (most) of the fans than it can to the team. As he put it, is the UGA game more important than tonight's game? If you think so, I think the problem isn't his, it's yours. Sorry, if that isn't what you want to hear, but it's true.

I like Chuck Oliver. He's knowledgeable, fair, not a jerk, and although he's a big Auburn and SEC homer he gives props where props are due and doesn't make his living off screwing with the people he's interviewing.

What did Chernoff do wrong? If he had blasted Gailey before the interview and sucked up during the interview, you would've called him chicken**** for not being man enough to say it to Gailey's face.

Chernoff asked questions, and had legitimate statements, that everyone on this board has expressed. I'm glad he asked those questions. All of Gailey's interviews are without substance; this one actually had a good back-and-forth to it.

It's not so much the questions but the timing. I remember Chan being interviewed last year and previous times on 790 about the offense and Reggie as well. It just seems like there are other things out there more important to talk about, like this season, Taylor, and this years offense.

If it is a problem for most of the fans, then the coach better make it his problem. I am sorry if that isn't what you want to hear, but it is true.

The subject did start about lack of QB development (supposedly including this year and TB.) It digressed into a pissing match about a sore spot for many fans of starting the same QB for four years and why we couldn't either get him better or find someone elese who was.

Bowden had the same issue with Rix if you recall, but he benched Rix several times along the way. He kept bringing him back because he believed in Rix's talent.

You can't let the inmates run the asylum - a near perfect analogy in this situation.

Like I said before, his stated goals are winning the ACC and beating UGA. Both make me happy as a GT fan therefore I think his priorities are in order.

Remember Andy Hall? He transferred because he wasn't good enough to start, supposedly. He's not exactly Peyton Manning, but he was good enough to win a NC at Division II and play as a QB at the NFL level for a couple of seasons. And he is still playing Arena League.

Would we have been better with Hall instead of Suggs? Or would it have been better for Hall to transfer anyway?

If you are the HC of GT, the answer to the question about the importance of the UGA game should be so ingrained in your being that you could answer it even if aliens descended from the sky and scooped your brain out of your skull provided that you still have a spinal cord and a mouth.

That's quite pithy but not so "perfect". A better analogy is any elected official. If you don't make the problems of your constituency your own, then you won't be around long.

I've always wondered if maybe the Florida Gator comes out in him when the subject of UGA arises. We tend to view the UGA game as if it is our biggest game in the world, while the Dawgs tend to ignore us and point to the Florida, who treat UGA as just another game, pointing to the SEC title and F$U/Miami.

Personally, while I always want to beat UGA, the ACC title means more to me as it typically demonstrates that we are having a hell of a season. Going 4-8, but beating UGA doesn't do a whole hell of alot for me. Losing to them when we should win (like the last couple of years) is more of a problem, but not because of how the coach/team approaches it, just because, like UVa & UMd this year, they have underperformed.

This analogy doesnt fit, how many 4-8 teams have defeated a Mark Richt team since he arrived in Athens

Huh? There have been quite a few teams with losing records to beat Georgia over Richt's tenure. Possibly not as many as over Gailey's tenure, but I don't think you'll find anyone arguing that UGA has been better than Tech over the last 7 years.

edit:
Now that I go back and really look, actually there's been damn few. That's what having 1 loss and 2 loss seasons can do for you. UGA has had some damn good teams over the past few years. Sheesh.

I think that last year's loss to Vandy is the only UGA loss to a team with a losing record under Richt.

when you say "damn few" do you mean one? They have one or two losses those years because he's a great coach.
