Just had my second great conversation with him in the last week and a half. WOW. Ga. Southern has a real winner in him.

Everything you might want to know about Chris Hatcher. He's a good friend of my brother in Valdosta, also. He's definitely a stand up guy.

I teach at Georgia Southern, and I can tell you Eagle people are thrilled with Coach Hatcher. I've met him, and he's one of the nicest, most humble people I've ever met. For those who haven't kept up with GSU's season, our place kicker missed a game-winning, chip shot fg that would've beaten Furman as time ran out. At the beginning of that Monday's practice, Coach Hatcher called the kicker up to the front of the team and said, "Jesse, nobody wanted you to make that kick more than I did, but I just wanted to thank you for making the winning kick against SD State this year and for all you've done for our team." Coach Hatcher is special.

Well I am sure Chris is a good coach too. I could give a fart if he is nice.

Need some more Chris Hatcher talk today.
He is exactly what we need- An offensive winner. Energetic. He went to GSU, they had 18-20 guys on academic watch/probation and in one year they are all in good standing- He loves his players and wants well rounded kids. He has only 31 scholarship guys left and put up 34 on Col St (His running back was also the Cornerback because his squad is so depleted.) He will scheme you to death- Spread it out like Rodriguez at WVA. He is well known by all Ga Hi School coaches, FLA HS Coaches. If you meet him, for 15 minutes, you would come away saying "That is the guy GT needs." They led the nation in rushing, and he is a traditional spread/passing philosophy (although each year at Valdosta they had a 1000yd rusher when everyone said he couldnt run.)

We can dream but I don't see us taking the chance on such a young coach.

I do think we could do some serious recruiting w/ him as the HC though.

I've have heard the opposite on Hatcher's humility. Egos are good though, so I really don't care either way.

With the Hatch Attack in white and gold, we would absolutely lock-down the state of GA with recruiting.

And "being nice" is important. Character is often attributed to Gailey as a strength. Hatcher would be at least a net even in that category.

He'd be 80 miles from his family (and his wife's) - we'd never lose this guy. Family is a big deal to Chris.

Statesboro is a great fit for Hatcher. But he'll move to better things one day. Paul Johnson's success isn't hurting him - even though their offenses are pole-opposites.

Hatcher's not itching to leave Statesboro. If we stick with Gailey another year I think Hatcher is still an option - though his value will be higher. If we make a change not involving Hatcher we'll miss our opportunity.

At the end of the day, though, this is how I feel...If our previous AD were still at the helm, I'd be very pessimistic. I like DRad's approach - in my opinion the probability that DRad has not thought about Hatcher is near zero. DRad is a winner. He wants winners around him. Thus I'm optimistic - but I'm also completely biased.

Did you have the gumption to bring up a possible opening at Tech to him?

If he really did get offered the FSU job but declined then I think he can definitely use that as leverage in the interview process, especially if Jimbo Fisher is a candidate.

MaconGT: I noticed you alluded to this in an earlier post. I ignored it. Personally, I can't imagine it. Though my personal experience is a bit stale, I can't imagine it.

There are four or five legitimate candidates I would be happy with. Hatcher is one of them.

Chan is a stand up guy, no?
Bill Lewis was a stand up guy.
O'Leary--not so much.
Ray Goff--stand up.
Ted Roof--stand up guy.
John Bunting--good guy.
Larry Coker--stand up guy.
John Cooper---great fellow
Mike Shula---excellent person
Patrick Nix--stout fellow.
Ken Hatfield--stand up guy
Glen Mason---excellent character.

He even sports the visor. There is a proven correlation between golf visors worn by football coaches and winning

It's hard to quantify the effect of a hypothetical change on the revenue generation from the "excitement" of a hot-shot coaching hire.

This I know as fact:

I am a graduate student at UF - on the graduate student salary - not working the typical 40hrs/week I might add.

This caused me to drop my season tickets four years ago.

With the Hatch Attack in Fulton County, my butt would be back in Section 226 for six weekends per year, and on the road for a couple of others.

This is not trivial.

I think DRad has too many personal connections with other highly qualified candidates to make this hire.

Lets get someone with the 1st name of Bobby, As in Bobby Dodd, Bobby Ross, and last but not least Bobby Cremmins.

That may be, but I would also expect him to at least talk to other coaches and you never know what might come of it. Fisher for example may have the FSU job sewn up and may want to stay there. Same with some of his other possible candidates. Or someone like Hatcher may just blow him away face to face. If we do make a change I hope he takes the time to look around some.

If this is a reference to Bobby Petrino, I like where your heart is, but it ain't happening. If he leaves to go back to college next year it will be Auburn or LSU. What's he making...like $5MM a year w/ the Falcons? Hell, I'd stick around for that much money, even w/ a crappy team like the falcons.

Bobby Bowden? :laugher:
