Wasn't it Bobby Dodd that said it all starts with good recruiting? I do recall that Dodd was real big on hiring a great coaching staff and let them do the coaching.

I'm a huge Tech fan, but I'm officially seperating myself from the majority of our other fans. I've never seen a bigger split in what a fanbase thinks are "good decisions" for a program.

Like I said, doubt it will happen at this point in his career, but I'm pretty sure when he gets his shot at the big time you will eat those words.

So share your wisdon bama since you're obviously the only person on the board who has an opinion worth posting. I appreciate your support for Tech, but just what makes you think you have a damn clue?

It's nonsense like this that makes it difficult to justify time spent on message boards such as Stingtalk (or the equivalent).

He's awesome, and he's obviously the best coach out there even though he's never been given a chance at the age of 62. And if you don't agree with me, you're a moron and you accept mediocrity!

Nothing like a guy with some DII national championships and guy that SHOULD HAVE HAD a DIAA conference championship IN HIS FIRST YEAR AT GEORGIA SOUTHERN!!!!! It was lost at no fault of his own

Correct me if I'm wrong but I beleive they have 3 losses, 2 in OT and one the kicker missed a FG at the end. If it weren't for his complete turn around of GSU I wouldn't be as high on the guy, but he seems to be doing something right wherever he goes.

We can take a chance some old washed up assistant who has never been in charge of his own program or we can take a chance on some young, energetic coach that will most likely be out of our reach within another 5 years or so
 
Obviously I was being sarcastic about Norm Chow in the above post, but I do have a couple of points about Hatcher.

I know that he's a good coach, but it's hard for me to give him most of the credit for the turn around at GSU. The season before VanGorder, GSU was 8-4 when Sewak was the coach. VanGorder took them to 3-8. Hatcher brought them back to 8-4 with basically the same personnel.

I'm sure the teams will get better under Hatcher (I believe Sewak was a mediocre coach), but I think he did about right for the personnel he had. It would have impressed me a lot more if he had won some more of those close games. And please don't say, well the kicker missed a FG, because you should rarely be in a position to have to rely on your kicker to win the game for you. Take care of business the rest of the game - too many things can go wrong on a last second kick.

All that being said, I think Hatcher is a great coach based on his track record, but I'm not quite ready to see him at GT if a change is made.

The only real solid thing I take out of the whole GSU situation is that VanGorder is a crappy HC.
 
THE BEST OPTION FOR GEORGIA TECH IS TO HIRE NICK SABAN AWAY FROM BAMA!

We need a young guy with fire in his belly and not some old retread who can't decide where or which league he wants to coach in.

Seems to me that both Saban and Spurrier have lost their magic touch.
 
I'm pretty sure we were kidding about Saban and Spurrier, but I wouldn't count Saban out yet and Spurrier just doesn't have the talent...but seems to be regressing (record wise).

I agree about the young coach w/ fire comment. That is a very big thing this team has lacked from our coach, FIRE! Having Choice carry a sledge hammer out on the field will only get you so far.

One upgrade, recruiting coordinator should be Jessica Biel. What 18 year old would say no to her?
