Henry County receiver Chris Jackson, who committed to Georgia Tech nearly a year ago, spent the weekend on a visit to Alabama.
But the best sales pitch from Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban failed to convince Jackson to switch his allegiance from the Jackets to Alabama.
“The visit went well,” Jackson said Sunday evening. “Alabama did a great job of recruiting me, but I’m still committed to Tech 100 percent.”
He'll be very sorry he did that after PJ throws the ball 25 or so times a game to wide open WR next season. Look for GT to win more games than Alabama, and look for Jackson have second thoughts as he tries to fit in with the other five or six WR that Saban will bring in each year.
I guess he didn't like the idea of having to block somebody on a running play. Well, if you play for PJ as a WR, you will learn to block, but you would get your catches as well if the personnel can throw and catch. At GT it will.
I expect Tech to bounce back from this catastrophe just like America did after the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor.
There are several schools that I could have understood him leaving for (Tennessee, Florida, Clemson, FSU, etc.), but this just doesn't make any sense. Alabama already had 6 commitments from WR's, and could be getting another from Julio Jones. I really don't understand how someone like Chris, who seems to be a pretty intelligent young man, can't see through Saban's snake oil salesman BS.
If PJ is not lying(or mistaken) about how many times he is going to throw the ball, this should only be a problem the first year or two. WRs are only scared because all they have recently to base their decision off of is his track record at Navy. If he throws the ball 15-20 times a game and has good success at Tech, the WR commits will return.
Jackson's relationship with Geoff Collins, the former Georgia Tech director of football operations who joined Alabama's staff last summer, .....contributed to his decision.
