Hypothetically Speaking.. if O'Leary in his final year was undefeated in conference and had a .727 winning percentage overall in is final year, with a 44-0 victory over UGA, and a .757 winning percentage over his last 3 seasons as a coach...

And then Gailey came in and went .500 in the conference, with a .400 winning percentage in his first season and we only got beat by UGA 33-0...

WOULD you still think Chan should be our coach??? This is for all the BITCHers out there. (Because I Think Chan is Horrible) crowd. Seriously though. I would really like to know your response.

uhh ... i don't understand the question .. but i sure ain't BITCHing about it!

BOR, its a loaded question.

A large population of Tech fans know (not me) that Bobby Dodd lost in his first year as head coach to uga 33-0.

What you fail to point out is that Coach Dodd's innagural season was the same year that Junior's Grill opened on North Ave. Its a wonder he won any games at all.

Hypothetical questions are always loaded ones, but yeah he would still be here

1...Dodd's first year was the year most servicemen came back to their colleges, and Tech's previous advantage during the war years was now over. UGA's stud running back was one of those returning servicemen.
.
2...Gailey's 51-7 beats that score hands down, and it probably will never be beat again.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">What's your point, ghost? On a level playing field, Uga generally beats Tech?

What exactly is the probability that "it probably will never be beat again"? Every now and then UGa clocks us (see '46, '81, '93, '94) Every now and then, we clock them. So what? Oh, I know, fire the coach.

With your attitude toward GT football, you undoubtedly would be more comfortable on a dawg board. They like to sneer at us too.

</font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Belly Series the point is Charley Trippi one of the top 5 players during the single platoon football era of the 1940's. Hands down whether we like it or not. Everyone trying to compare Alex's/Dodd's change with O'leary/Gailey change is not looking deep enough because the era's are totally different, single platoon against free substitution. One player (Trippi) could really make a huge difference. Plus sadly our stud (Clint Castleberry) did'nt make it back so I seriously doubt if Dodd had his big gun on hand the outcome would have been the same.

I have confidence that we will end our christening year at expanded BDS with an ass whipping of the fleabags. I don't ride on any bandwagon. I expect to beat UGetanA every year. UGetanA will ALWAYS suck. I hope you poor mouthers aren't even getting near any of our players with this doom and gloom crap.

Does it make any difference which team whipped us the worst? Georgia whipped us last year by 44 points (51-7).

Florida State whipped us by 46 in 1996 by the score of 49-3.

The FSU whipping was the worst in recent years.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">So the point is that when they have BETTER players, they beat us?

I appreciate your nuances, stateline, but MY point is that if you want to find pointlessly negative things about a coach, it's easy. The question, as it has been see Beeware days, is WHY are some of us so hot to be totally negative about the Georgia Tech football coach?

The only possible reason for a Tech fan to do that, as far as I can see, is so that he may be able to say "I told you so." Those are some mighty cold grits to be looking forward to.

I agree with Belly. I think some of the posters are hoping to be able to say "see, I told y'all..". We have some excellent talent on the team and a probable candidate for the Heisman (someday) in Bilbo, depending on how hard the young man works. If he comes through this year, we will be very good.

LLCoolJacket, no I am not kidding. A coach getting beat by 46 points is no better than coach that is beaten by 44 points from a different team.

In fact, UGA beat FSU this past year, so the two teams have some parity.

Both teams played poorly or they would not have been beaten by such a large margin.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">J Jacket, in making your point you just defeated the arguments of most hardcore Gailey supporters: namely that we do have excellent talent on hand. I agree with you totally. Gailey supporters all over this board for months have claimed our talent is overrated. Also no way would a true Tech supporter would want Tech to fail so that they can claim "I told you so" on a internet chat board. If Tech and Gailey does fail you will read "I told you so" from posters who comment alot and from ones you almost never here from. Does not mean in their heart that thats what they want to say. Its my opinion that some of the "I told you so" posters are some of the most ardent supporters when they are sitting or standing at their seats in Bobby Dodd Stadium and just use the internet to voice their frustrations and nothing else. Am I confident Gailey can turn it around? Sadly no. But I dearly hope he can! I just can't believe mine or yours or anyone else's egos can be such that they would crow over failure! Thats all I have to say.

I'll admit I did'nt like the choice and at times I have been vocal about it. Since the new year it has been Coach Gailey's luck that eveything coming out of Tech (except for out of state recruiting) has been negative. That is not the posters fault. There has been relatively little positive information coming out of Tech for us to jump on and crow about. Again that is not the posters fault. To many it would seem that Gailey boosters are blindly optimistic and nothing else. Well for whatever it is worth that is why the perception of Gailey has been negative from the start and has continued to be so to this very day. There just has been nothing but an overwhelming amount of negativity coming out of the program. Fortunatly it will not take anything earthshaking to turn this perception around. Just elimination of the critical off-field errors and a solid well coached effort on Saturdays.

ahso, it damned well does matter, regardless of the relative strengths involved. THWG

GOLDZ, I am talking about relative strengths.

We know FSU has been a strong team. We also know UGA had a strong team last year with a very strong defensive team. Georgia was just a hair away from being a national champion and beat FSU handily last year. Of course FSU was the ACC champ.

So, I was comparing two strong teams when I compared the 46 point whipping laid on an O'Leary team by FSU. It was equal to the whipping laid on Tech by UGA of 44 points.

So, the comparison is valid.

I'm anxious to see how full the stadium will really be if this team has the rocky road we think it will. I know that most us diehards will continue to visit BDS no matter what.

Statelinejacket, I have to question one of your statements.

You noted the hard core Gailey supporters. Tell me where you find this idea about hard core Gailey supporters. Most every post I see defending Gailey is not the coach himself, but his right to have at least this year and maybe another to turn the program around.

There is an extremely anti-Gailey group that makes no bones about their dislike for him as a person and coach. However, you will not find a hard core group as fans of Gailey. Most of these posters are just trying to be fair and support his efforts and Tech football.
