Coaching Question for the Board...

Yet again I make the mistake of expecting an original or well-founded argument to come from the Chan/Tech bashers but alas, it's the same ol' idiocy they've been using for months.

With your attitude toward GT football, you undoubtedly would be more comfortable on a dawg board. They like to sneer at us too.[/QB]
<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Some on here are at absolute odds with people that support the program at GT. Sure some say they support, but they seem like the enemy is those of use who are backing the players and the coaches which by the way is the team.

Here we are about to dawn a new season. It's not a personal thing with me with any poster, but there are less than a handful of posters here that really make me sick.

I'm not in a situation now where I can keep up with things like in the past with a job change. Have a good number of GT friends that I can talk to at any given time. I feel for those fans that live away from this area and this is where they communicate with fans. I don't mean that as a negative towards StingTalk. I'm really sick of some attitudes here.

Go Jackets!

You noted the hard core Gailey supporters. Tell me where you find this idea about hard core Gailey supporters. Most every post I see defending Gailey is not the coach himself, but his right to have at least this year and maybe another to turn the program around.

There is an extremely anti-Gailey group that makes no bones about their dislike for him as a person and coach. However, you will not find a hard core group as fans of Gailey. Most of these posters are just trying to be fair and support his efforts and Tech football.

Where are the posts that say that? There are none! You need to stop spinning. This IS ALL ABOUT COACHING AND NEVER HAS BEEN ANYTHING ELSE!

He's the coach - it's his coaching and it's that simple! Nice man, can't coach. I have not seen one poster say anything about the person he is, quite the contrary. Some have mentioned his religous beliefs and didn't think that was saying he wasn't a nice man - just that it needed to be kept out of the 'coaching job'.

Don't denegrade those who don't like his coaching by saying they don't like the man. Bill Curry was a very nice man - couldn't coach. That's all this is about. Personalities can stink, the question is, can you coach???? It's so plain and simple that the defenders of this coach are trying to make it much more, IT'S NOT!

Gailey stinks, IMO. I can see it already...we lose to Ugag by two touchdowns this year and the Gailey supporters will spin again by saying...let's keep Gailey because he's making the right steps forward because we only lost to Ugag by 14 this time OR they'll do some analysis of previous coaches in their second season and it will deteriote to a conversation that Gailey's team had 5 first downs more than Dodd's in the fourth game of the season in the last half of the third quarter...or some BS like that...so he is must be righting the ship so to speak.

We'll win 5 or 6 games this year. Gailey will stick around for another mediocroe recruiting season...then here comes Miami, VT, FSU, NCS, UM, UGA...

hey geetee, you're the biggest jerk on this board, all IMO ofcourse

GTT: This program has had its detractors over the years and they have been vocal - it didn't take Chan Gailey to make that happen. These message boards are the avenue to state feelings as supporters.

It's ludicrous to think your not a supporter because a coach is being questioned - especially since it's the diehards questioning. Teams all over this country have supporters that go to games no matter what and are constantly in disagreement with coaches, coaches game plans, coaches statements, you name it. It has nothing to do with supporting the team. They stay, coaches come and go.

Do you think this would be happening if everything was okay? NO. If anyone thinks this is a nice thing - then there definition of nice is something not out of Webster's.

Should we LIE about our feelings? Should be not even come here? Was this board put together so that we could all come here when things are not going well to "say they are"?

Debate your thoughts, opinions but know that we're ALL HERE BECAUSE WE SUPPORT THIS SCHOOL AND IT'S TEAM. Coaches are fair game - it's a job like you and I have. I'm not putting my head in the sand about what I believe because someone says it's what they want. We can say the same thing about those who defend this coach. Chan supporters have their rights - so do those who don't. It's called 'free speech'!

Quite the contrary - opinions are from both sides and they're different. This comment that keeps coming up about because you don't support the coach then you don't support GT IS ALSO SICKENING!
And so far from the truth. If I didn't support GT I wouldn't buy the tix nor would I come here with concerns. I just wouldn't care at all.

Every fan for almost every sport in this country gravitates to a team, for whatever reason. They stick with the team. They decide the allegiances to the coaches based on what they see on the field. They don't stop supporting the team, but they can have reservations, concerns and dislike for the coaching on all fronts.

GT is no different. Maybe there are those who feel you HAVE to like the coaching ability of someone but that's not real, especially if you the fan/supporter don't see the same and you have concern.

I know your a huge supporter but so are we.

All lovers of GT need to just stop replying to the CG bashers:

"He is too."

"He is not. Look at some facts . . ."

He is TOO! Don't try to confuse me with a bunch of fact because I feel in my gut that . . ."

An intellectual discussion is impossible with them. Lets just let them run their idiotic courses of subjectivity in which all truth revolves around their own subjective selves.

The rest of us can be active in decent threads. When they try to capture the thread with their negativity, lets just not reply to them and keep the main subject going.

What is at stake here is a pale of doom and gloom to be imposed on our GT spirit. There are some who will not be satisfied unless that pale reaches the football field. Then their "gut feelings" will be vindicated. Much is at stake for both kinds of posters. Those who love GT want a good "can do" spirit to reach the field. Those who love themselves as the center of the universe want their source of truth (their own subjective feelings) vindicated.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Mustard: Am I suppose to tell a Chan detractor - 'you like Chan because I said so!' Football is a game of emotion, attitude and talent. Emotion comes from all fronts including the fans. Are you asking to stop the emotional feelings we have for the things we feel are not right?

Am I or you going to tell someone who you love - you can't say this because I said so because your opinions don't count? This is all about opinions not about support! The spinning on this front is huge.

Let's see how many true fans are at the games this year - let's call roll after each game and see. I'm not about to allow anyone to tell me what my personality should be or how I should think but it what the Chan defenders seem to be trying to do.

You want what's right but what's right should be accepting differences of opinion and knowing that we're all here because we are GT fans/supporters and mainstays - no matter who the coach!

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">I used the term 'hardcore Gailey supporters' to describe defenders of Gailey's "right" (as you have termed it) to another year or even more. My question to you Ahso is what gives Gailey the "right" to another year or more. Gailey has been given the "privledge" of coaching Georgia Tech football. Everyday he has to work to keep this privledge. Everyday has to be exercised to earn the privledge of being the head coach another day. Mistakes will be made of course. Just don't repeat the same mistakes. Off the field or on the sideline during the game. Don't repeat the same mistakes and Gailey will have this privledge of coaching Tech football as long as he shall want to. But to repeat the mistakes and this privledge will be revoked.

Beebad, MsTA, Stateline, DaveTech... are you listening????

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Ok Stateline, I got a couple questions for you as well as the other BITCHers (Because I THINK Chan is Horrible).
1.) do you think Gailey should be given another year to coach based on last year?
2.) If we fired Chan after last season, What Ramifications IF ANY would the Tech program of had to endure because of that decision??

Let's say we play all our opponets tough this year and we come out with a 6-6 record. Will you support Gailey's firing and if so, do you think there are any ramifications to his firing??

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">He has a tendancy to do that in nearly every post he makes concerning the subject. Some people however, such as those you listed, disregard the nail altogether and aim straight for Gailey.

Geeze, go back and read what the hell he wrote for God's sake. Let's not turn this thing into something it quite simply isn't. All he was saying is Gailey supporters support his RIGHT to coach another year if not two. It's not like we're fans of his coaching. I'm not convinced yet that he is our coach. But WE are certainly not convinced that he is NOT our coach either.

The Gailey Bashers cannot understand this. That is why it is EASY to infer that they must just dislike him overall.

There is nothing more to it than that. GET IT??? I swear, your logic in most of these threads borders on moronic.

TheJacket, look at your mail.

Statelinejacket, I think Gailey deserves this year because all coaches should deserve another year in his circumstances.

He was 7-6, and he did have some staff problems needing some adjustments, and, Personally, I feel very confident there were some football players who laid down on him.

Does that seem reasonable?

By the way, I have no disagreement with the remainder of your post.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">I don't think Chan is horrible but I will play your little game.

1. Yes, based on last year, he should have been given this year.
2. This next one is harder because firing him would entail hiring someone else. If we had fired Gailey and hired Steve Spurrier after one season, then it is a good decision. There are really too many variables at play with this question.

Also, if you are going to say that the ramifications for Tech are bad for firing a coach after one mediocre season because it sends the wrong message that we don't give a coach time and it adversely affects who we can hire as a coach, I say that is hogwash. Coaches know this is a business and they are hired to be fired. Ask Jim Donnan, and UGA turned out alright. What were the ramifications for forcing a legendary basketball coach to resign midseason? None, we hired a competent if not outstanding coach.

If Chan's detractors don't like him that is fine. You don't have to like the coach to support the team. Don't confuse the two.

Finally if we go 6-6 and play tough, I think Chan survives (as he should) but I expect that the big donors who don't waste their time on message boards will not be pleased. He is going to be compared to the other coaches around the country who had outstanding second seasons and a .500 mark would really raise some questions.

I simply stated he does'nt have the right to coach Tech next year or the year after because it a privledge given to him and is one that he will have to work hard everyday to keep. I also stated if he avoided repeating mistakes he could have this job as long as he wants it because the result would be he is putting a winning team on the field. Where O where could you have misread this?
