I don't think it's about the money for Saban at all, but I also can't see him stepping down in the next 3 years barring some sort of health event. The extra cash certainly doesn't hurt.

If he goes it will mean he will have had great success here—-like ACC Championships and beating UGA.

    I’m ok with that.

    Kirby would make more sense.

Don't forget that Bill Curry rescued the program from the Bill Curry years of 80-82

Moved over here to the Huntsville area from Dalton in spring 1991 & Curry & GT were vilified beyond belief by the unwashed Bammers. Blamed Curry, not AD & Bammer legend Steve Sloan, for moving the Iron Bowl out of Birmingham to a Home&Home where they'd have to go to Awbarn every other year.

No way do they look to North Avenue, unless they look at Collins or Key as being from the Satan Coaching Tree like they did with Bryant's Perkins, Stallings, DuBose, Shula, et al. BTW, Bryant is still alive on this side of The Hooch.

It's very much up in the air to this point as to whether Collins and his staff can actually coach. Everything else has been off the charts excellent. Way premature discussion. We're going to face adversity this year, how are we going to handle it? Will they play hard for him regardless of circumstance? Will the X's and O's look good, and will the coaches manage a good game? All remains to be seen.

There is more positive evidence on these regards than you choose to see.

Collins would have to do something like go to the playoffs for six years in a row and win about three national championships to maybe be considered.

Not being negative, just need to see some results at the P5 level. This year won't be a very fair test because he can only work with what he has, it's obvious we'll be a bit short for talent in key areas of the team (DL, OL). However, I'm looking to see whether he can hold a team together through ups and downs and get them to play hard when there is nothing left but pride to play for last game in November. I know his team last year went out the gate horribly but rebounded well and fought hard.

And then the Bammers would want a clause in the contract saying "No way in hell are you going to leave us and go to Kentucky like Curry did!"

I think that got up their noses as much as anything else. Kinda like when Curry left his alma mater for Bammer-land.....

I'm inclined to believe this. I mean what's a difference between $3 mil and $8 mil other than bigger house and buying more yachts. Hard to see Collins leave the FO OH FO culture he's creating and head for the forest in bumbleville. Can't imagine him pitching "2-0-5 Takeover" (that's the area code of Tuscaloosa - had to google it) and being excited about it.

My prediction: the next two head coaches at Bama get fired for not winning the NC.

Seems likely. Following Saban will be brutal for whoever takes the job.
