I don't think Clemson or FSU going to another conference are reasonable rumors for a variety of reasons: buy out, time zones, academic qualifications, lack of new market penetration, etc. It won't stop the inevitable rumors from the fans that want to see their conference turn into a super conference.

Houston is likely out on academics alone. Louisville had to offer the moon academically to get an invite, and they've been so delinquent that the other ACC schools are now investing administrators to get them going. Don't think the presidents have an appetite for taking on another academic fixer-upper.
 
I've been saying the same thing for years. Geographically and historically(SWC), the Big 12 has always been the most vulnerable conference. Nebraska, Colorado, Missouri, and A&M have all left. They are close or share a footprint with every other conference and adding garbage isn't going to fix that, they are the next Sunbelt when Texas and Oklahoma realize there are better options.

I doubt it. They know he is on a hot seat and probably is only around another year at most.

Oh and the ACC needs to just go on ahead and lock up ND. Hopefully this new network deal will sway them from the NBC contracts that seem to hold them back.

N.D. has the ACC locked up, not the other way around. New contract says if n.d. joins a conference in next 20 years it must join ACC. Means they have no desire to join a conference for next 20 years while we are obligated to take them. Playing us for lil girls we are.

Wut? You know how contracts work, right? Both parties have to be willing participants. The ACC and ND struck a deal because both sides wanted the arrangement.
 
The ACC was just getting their foot in the door with Notre Dame. Build some rivalries and build on some rivalries. Notre Dame is a full member in everything but football. I think they will eventually become a full member

The ACC should push to keep the playoffs at 4 teams. That makes it nearly impossible for an independent to get in. It also explains why the ACC was working with the Big12 to get a championship game with only 10 members. That makes ND's path that much more difficult.
 
There has never been any credibility to FSU/Clem to the big 12. Those particular rumors have always been message board/blog fodder stirred up by West Virginia fans angry about the ACC not taking them.

If the SEC ever came calling I'd be concerned but I don't seem them expanding either.

Big XII will be getting BYU, Houston, Cincy level programs.

That's all that's left and another Texas team does nothing. The SEC can wait for schools like Texas or Oklahoma that actually can increase their payout. Until then, they have no reason to pick up a second South Carolina or Florida team. They offer zero benefit. Big XII and their one true champion are getting shuffled out. BYU is the only school worth taking. They will add CFU or SFU to get into the Florida market , but even those have very regional fanbases. They are a flawed conference.

Who the hell are CFU and SFU?
 
ECU will be in the Big 12 sometime in the next million years, maybe, but it won't be this round. If they expand, they are going to go after BYU first. The Houston thing is probably a political game, but seems like it has more wheels than anything else.
 
As an ECU fan through my children who are both grads I agree they have no chance to get into the Big 12, ACC, or SEC any time soon. That is a shame, because they compete so well with teams from these conferences and are not afraid to take them on. Their four non-conference games this year include trips to South Carolina and Virginia Tech and a home game with NC State, a typical schedule for the Pirates. There is a good football culture there and home attendance is outstanding, averaging in the mid 40's in a 48K stadium year after year in a conference with no natural rivals, where visitors don't sell 500 tickets a game to your home games. Sadly, all is driven by TV markets and dollars as well as by existing teams who can blacklist rivals they don't want to see in their conference.

Mid-level Big XII teams join the SEC in 2012 and start winning immediately. TAMU goes from 4-5 in the Big XII to 6-2 in the SEC the next year, and Mizzou won the SEC East 2 out of 4 years.

What would happen if 11-2 Oklahoma joined and Texas joined after firing Charlie Strong?
