In 2021 what kind of engineer would you get if you were paying 40K per year, $40K might get you a great Engineering Grad in the 80s or early 90s, but not in 2021?

To summarize, we have to get lucky with our Asst Coach hires, and then they leave after 2 yrs of success at GT to Earn Market Wages.

Our Finances have put us in that category where we have to hope to lucky with our hires.

This is simply not true; while aren't going to pay top 10 assistant coach staff salaries, we can be competitive. The biggest problem is finding coordinators who want to come join a lame duck coach.

Our finances should have taught us not to make stupid decisions on hiring coaches and writing contracts.

Financially, keeping Collins is the most costly thing we can do. When our AD can't sell tickets or raise money, maybe he will figure that out.

I hope we beat Georgia, and it's possible we will. (See the movie, "The Perfect Storm.") But, if they embarrass us, it's time to start over.
 
I’ll say this. No matter what happens this weekend or during the off-season, I’ll still be at at least one game next year. Can’t be worse than Citadel or NIU (the last two games I’ve attended).
Stop bringing your bad juju to games.
 
If Tech is keeping Collins then I'd like to see some strong coordinators with Power 5 experience or spectacular results at the Group level. But then I think, who am I kidding? What successful coordinator wants to switch to a parallel position with a lame duck coach. So Tech is going to have to take a chance with an ex coach or a positions coach. Basically Thacker 2.0 and hope for the best.

We pay Coordinators $400K to $500K and the market average is $750K to low 7 figures, with the Top Coordinators in the industry now getting $2.5MM per yr on 3 yr guaranteed deal.

Please tell me how $400K to $500K is competitive when P5 guys are getting $750K up to $2.5MM?

Would you take that kind of cut in pay in your industry?

Coaches are mercenaries, they take their Coaching Talents to the Programs that can pay the most Money, only then will they spout those BS lines about character and developing Young Men to create a better society, yada yada yada.

You saying we can be competitive is one thing, but we have never been competitive in Pay, maybe back in the Days of Dodd where Attendance drove Coaches Pay, but not in the TV Era have we ever been competitive in paying coaches.

I will never, never be encouraged about Tech football until we have a head coach and a coaching staff in whom I have confidence. Our coach is so bad that we would win three games with a team of all five star recruits. I am mad that we have totally ineffective people as our AD and head football coach. That is a combination that threatens the very existence of our Tech football.

But here's the thing , uber talented position coaches at the P5 level are already making close to what our Coordinators make, so if we find a guy ready to make that jump from QB Coach to OC, can we pay them enough of an increase to make it worth it for them to jump to GT for lower than Mkt pay, or wait it out where they are, and go for 7 figures as a Coordinator at another P5 College

I am thinking ibeeballin was right and the DC is probably going to be Taver Johnson. Been an assistant with the Raiders the last couple years, but much better resume than Thacker. Very curious what we do on offense, if anything. I have no guesses there.

I think we paid Roof like 800k, so we will probably get back in that range with the next hires.

Next year, there will be some sort of offseason slogan on shirts and hats like “W.I.N.B.A..” (which, of course, stands for “W.I.N., But Actually This Time”), we’ll hear about how great the new schemes are looking and how everyone’s getting better every single day, and we’ll talk about expectations that the team will be able to win 7-8 games. They won’t, and instead will go about 4-5 wins with at least one downright head-scratching loss. Geoff Collins will be relieved of his duties as Georgia Tech’s head coach, and we’ll start the process all over again, hopefully with some improved on-field results. To Hell With Geoff! #THWG
