Contract extension for Geoff

@Diseqc Is right, what we really need to do is ensure the coach’s contract never hinders recruiting. Maybe the AA can put their heads together and figure out some sort of language for automatic rollover terms so that we don’t even have to worry about it being a factor.

ST is full of dumbasses that wouldn’t know the first thing about running an athletic department. I don’t think Geoff has earned an evergreen contract, but if we’re strong enough to see this transition out, he could probably get to that point.

Nailed it. The lack of long term vision among our fanbase is very disappointing. I thought Georgia Tech fans were supposed to be smart.

Yep - If VT fans were as impatient and unrealistic as GT fans, Frank Beamer would have been canned after his third year and they never would have won the NC whatever year that was (I forget). Perhaps we can learn from them.

"I don’t think Geoff has earned an evergreen contract" . . . the fact that you actually wrote that gave me the best laugh this site has given me all year.

:first:

Kudos, sir! And since someone here has a mancrush on him . . .

When do you all think we need to worry about Geoff not getting a contract extension yet? Recruiting will really start to suffer if he just keeps cruising on his initial deal. I really think this is the year everything g comes together and we get over the hump of the past few seasons.

What we absolutely can not happen is Geoff to win 6 or 7 this year and then be a hot commodity and take a job at some SEC school (Auburn?). Need to lock him up for At least a few more years and make sure there is an ironclad buyout.
Master troll, well done sir.

I like the way you're thinking, but I'm worried that an extension too soon will lead to complacency. It would suck if he failed to maintain his elite level and couldn't match last year's success.

why?

he’s likely to be the HC here for AT LEAST another 5 years or so. We win 6 this year, 6 or 7 next, and then he’ll finally have his recruits and everything in order and we’ll be off to the races.
Thanks for chiming in, Mrs. Collins. Always knew you were on Stingtalk in some fashion.

Let’s look at Frank Beamer as our blueprint. First two years he went 2-9 and 3-8. Prettt much the same as Geoff (let’s throw out 2020 due to Covid).

So if we can get an equivalent to 6-4-1 this year from Geoff, I don’t see why we shouldnt expect a similar career trajectory.

GT could really use the type of stability that Frank brought VT.

More good points. Lou Holtz didn't have a winning season until his fourth and then, BOOM!, ten straight bowl games, ranked every year (as high as #2). Arkansas just snatched him away in his seventh season as a head coach. Can we risk it?

This thread is straight Tard Bullsh**,. If this team does well this year, it's the new coaches on board, NOT Coach Clown Shoes.
If this team does well this year it’s due to Geoff recognizing a problem and correcting it. He made the decision to fire his best friend and bring in a competent OC. He made the decision to fire GT legacies.

Geoff made tough decisions to ensure Tech got better. It’s time to recognize that.

Don't forget fortitude. Mental fortitude to do right to make sure the team was all on the same page. Rotating backs to show that no one was above the Above The Line to the point that he sat Gibbs in his last game. Starting Simms to open the season to keep Yates from getting a big head. I hope we see that fire again.

Gibbs is a quitter. Hard to blame Geoff for that. And we don’t have anyone on the team named Simms, so I’m not 100% sure who you’re talking about

Do you seriously think Collins upended the staff of his own accord??? He knew he had to immediately or he would have been canned immediately.
