CPJ and The Ceiling

I don’t think CPJ would take us to a natty, not with the current level of coaching and players in the game. Just my opinion. I actually wanted Scott Frost, but considering how fast he bailed on UCF I’m sure we would have suffered the same fate. I’d like to see CPJ take us to a level of consistent competitiveness before he retires. Ongoing 9+ win seasons with the occasional dance in the Orange Bowl would be great for me.
What an idiot you are!

Scot Frost should stick around for $1.3m per year guaranteed for 4 years vs Gauranteed $35m at $5m per year, plus he gets a chance at the SEC Consolation trophy.

Yeah, 5 times more money to coach at home with the big boys, but he should hang in Orlando with Mickey because the Mons is in Tampa? You jealous idiot.

ACC-CG appearance is CPJ's ceiling. That's as far as his recruiting has taken him so far - no reason to believe it will change.
That's one way to frame 2014. You could also look at it as an 11 win season, an Orange Bowl win, and a top 10 finish. Our offense was absolutely unstoppable that year.

I have no idea what you are saying. I’d guess you probably don’t either.

you could also look at it as a year that we lost to both Puke and UNC at home and were a miracle away from a disastrous home loss to lowly GA Southern.
But yeah - that was CPJ's best recruited team and we couldn't win the ACC-CG so that's our ceiling. And that was his best season, no doubt.

Been a downward slide since then.

Ted Roof was our DC in 2014. You think that is our ceiling?

Where do we end up if we win every game? That's the ceiling.

Where is UCF's ceiling? Just below the CFP, apparently.
It’s gotta be the CFP. That’s if something cataclysmic doesn’t happen to the ACC. We’ve seen that in 09 and 14. Even with the losses we’ve had, we’ve been up there. With wins over Clemson, Miami, VT, UGA, and the ACCCG, if we were to win out, we’d make it.

Couldn't even come closer than 3 points to beating the 12-0 defending national champion Seminoles. When you look at it like that, it is kind of pathetic... No wonder we only finished that season ranked #7.

Yes.

Edit:

...unless we go private, get out from under the dwag controlled board of regents, expand majors, dominate UGA in all aspects, and then implement the Stanford model.

If we were ever to initiate a move to go “private”

- I think it would be a PR nightmare in our home state. Not unlike dropping out of the SEC as regards athletics. We Might have a chance to become a Stanford, but I think we would more easily become a Tulane or Rice type school athletically.

- as regards BoR, what are they doing to hold us back athletically? I am not saying they aren’t, I would just like some specific examples of what they have done to do this. Compared to when I went to GT, there are quite a few more majors available now. Some things that at one point would almost have been laughable, and certainly not Engineering related.

- I have said before, talking to my area rep on the BoR, it is up to the individual school to approach thr BoR and request new courses of study & majors. Not the other way around.

I have not been able to find any request from GT to the BoR that has been turned down. There very well may be some that have been, and I would really like to see those cases and study them.

I believe it is more of an issue with the Hills...s & Administration trying to hold back the GTAA than anything the BoR is doing or not doing. The BoR is too often used as an excuse because we have hired the wrong people, have an arrogant attitude by the Alum Assn towards the GTAA, have jealous people on the Hill that have actually wanted to hurt the GTAA (to the detriment to the entire school), and had an idiotic attitude about who we should have hired as coaches (can anyone tell me of ANY school in America that would have hired Bill Curry as HC over Steve Spurrier?)

So the BoR may not, by a long shot, be our best friend, but they are far from our worst enemy.

- Dominate ugag in all aspects? Hell, yes. Academically, athletics, research, etc.? Sounds like a great goal. But do not think either school will win All those fights.

We have hurt ourselves as much as they have hurt us. We come up with too many excuses instead of solutions we do have control over.

- While personally growing weary of CPJs O on many levels, I think he has a very good, if not great, O mind. But I think his system has hampered our D recruiting. I do not know if, regardless of many other influences, he is a skilled recruiter to start with. Signing kids that have offers from gsu / Elon / Troy vs offers from ugag / um / vt / is going to hamper reaching some other competitive level. And I doubt kids with offers from gsu type schools are somehow academically superior.

- we need more money from fans, alum, anyone for athletics. I admire CPJ for working for this without making a public display of our lack of support in this area. Again, not due to anything related to BoR. The BoR will have no say in setting up more competitive goals for our AA. Cremins showed how to do it. With scheduling and recruiting.

- lastly, if we went “private” how do we know the same HillNerds hurting the GTAA now (and not the BoR) would not find a way to use that to the further detriment of our athletic teams?

JMO, but the BoR and being a part of the University systemof Ga are far from our biggest problems.

you're the only one who labeled it "pathetic". I called it "the ceiling".
