Dabo done went off on a caller

I don’t think he’s stupid; I think he’s stubborn. His identity and success at Clemson have been built around the idea of culture and family. He’s spoke about how the portal goes against those ideals, I think he’ll retire before he changes his stance.
He might. Our own Hall of Fame coach retired rather than adjust and I love that coach. But at 53 years old I can see Dabo saying “ok, I’ll shut everyone up and get IPTAY to buy everyone” and run roughshod. We’ll see.

They let Tyler talk for over 2 minutes before being interupted.

"You make $11.5 million a year. That's second in college football, if I'm not mistaken. I'm curious why that salary has led to 4-4 record. And I know we're going to talk about just being a couple plays away from undefeated and all that. And I know you're a man of religion, I'm a big fan, coach. Before you categorize me as being in the 1.5 percent, I was going to Clemson games and my entire family, going back generations has been going to Clemson games when you're in commercial real estate. So I'm not going to accept being and that 1.5 percent.. And I respect the fact that you're a man of faith… I’m curious if you've ever read Proverbs 16:18, which talks about pride come for the fall. I was in the military and I was overseas for the big run. And so I couldn't watch all the games had tried my best and but I always watched press conferences, just for life advice and I appreciated all that. Something changed after 2018. You're humble, you're hungry and everything, and I always told people, ‘Man Dabo, but listen to his press conferences.’ But after that 2018 National Title, something changed. And there seems to be a lot of arrogance that came in. There was a lot of friends and family. Three of the 10 on-the-field football coaches are external, experienced hires. Everyone else is an internal hire that had no experience before, or was a former player or friend.

"So I'm curious, why are we paying you $11.5 million to go 4-4 for and it's not just this year? It's been it's been, you know, just the refusal to accept….
Well Dabo certainly confirmed the accusation of arrogance.

Dabo's point about being the victim of his own success and higher expectations is a good one. We had this problem under Johnson. Tyler's question doesn't seem so bad though that it warranted an angry rant. Clearly hit a nerve

Collins would have just done something passive aggressive, "next question"

That call wasn’t your typical Xs and Os criticism of a coach. It was absolutely a personal attack, bringing up Dabo’s salary and accusing him of nepotism with his hires. I don’t blame Dabo for getting upset. That being said, he struck a nerve because there was some truth to what he said.

Dabo is, and always has been, a “culture” guy. I don’t mean that in the fake GC3 way. You can hate Dabo if you want, but he is genuine - sometimes to a fault. I am also a huge believer in culture being a huge part of being successful -especially in the long term. Sure, IPTAY helps Clemson a lot, but dozens of schools across the country have similar (or more) resources, and Clemson has been better than nearly all of them for years. He attracted and retained kids because they saw value in being a part of a positive culture at a winning program. That is the #1 reason Clemson got to the top of the mountain.

Now, the wheels are coming off a little bit, because Clemson has missed badly on skill talent for a few years straight. As someone who follows both teams closely, I would take GTs offensive skill players over Clemson’s in a heartbeat. To compound that, Dabo doesn’t use the portal (it would hurt the culture) and isn’t willing to go all-out on NIL like most factories are. He was openly anti-NIL and one of the more outspoken coaches about wanting to preserve amateurism in football. I’m honestly not sure if Clemson will come back from this under Dabo, because I’m not sure Dabo is willing (or even able) to sell out on his ideals to make it happen. As another poster has already said, I wouldn’t be shocked if he retires first.

Fans are retarded and the worst part of following sports. Every sport, every forum is about unreadable. This one is at least funny.

Retard fan asks dumb insult question and the response was fine. People are too sensitive and fans are too dumb. According to fans, every cfb coach has to be Saban and even he's not good enough anymore. Every NBA player needs to improve if he's not MJ or Lebron and even those guys are overrated. Every NFL QB should be cut if he throws an interception. Every season isn't good enough without a championship and multiple championships isn't good enough if you lost any. It's all too annoying. I'd actually want to coach purely to get to insult people on the radio on a regular basis.

I agreed with everything you said until you got to the last few sentences. Dabo will change no matter how much it upsets his culture. The reason being the 11 million per year that the caller was asking about.

Yeah seems egotistical. "I've never failed at anything in my life."
He failed last Saturday. I've watched him fail at Bobby Dodd, he's 3-3 there and doesn't even have a winning record on The Flats. Maybe that's a tie but it includes 3 fails. WTF is he talking about he's never failed?

They don’t appreciate all the success that my assistant coaches and paid players brought! is how I read his whining. Now that his coaches are gone and they can’t pay players under the table we’re seeing his real value.

Somebody needs to take a sign to Clemson that says
"HI DABBO, I'M TYLER FROM SPARTANBURG

The two first round draft pick qbs didn’t hurt either.

Dabo is a great leader of young men. Just take a look at the Cleveland Browns quarterback.

Dabo's the best coach in the history of that state. He also knows the "what have you done for me lately" Clemson hicks have become obnoxious and he's a tad frustrated with them. I do find this quite delicious, especially after their overtures on buying their way out of the ACC. Makes you wonder if he's on the short list when Saban retires/dies in office and would he accept if offered.
Meh, still a clown.

Not as bad as Tyler in Atlanta who called in and cried on the Mark Richt call-in show

Does a coach have the prerogative to say STTE of "Let's go after so and so and offer him $xxxxxx.00" in NIL?

He definitely went overboard. Telling the fanbase that they were nothing before he got there was a dumb move. He needs to remember, he's speaking to one (maybe irrational) fan, not the entire fan base.

Firmly believe that the pups will have to beat their offer. Smart will be the first name on the short list. Also depends on how Kiffin and Kelly do between now and then. Norvell seems to be trending up.
