He attracted and retained kids because they saw value in being a part of a positive culture at a winning program. That is the #1 reason Clemson got to the top of the mountain.

Now, the wheels are coming off a little bit, because Clemson has missed badly on skill talent for a few years straight. As someone who follows both teams closely, I would take GTs offensive skill players over Clemson’s in a heartbeat. To compound that, Dabo doesn’t use the portal (it would hurt the culture) and isn’t willing to go all-out on NIL like most factories are. He was openly anti-NIL and one of the more outspoken coaches about wanting to preserve amateurism in football.

You really believe that an incredible influx of talent was going to buttcrack, SC because of a goofy guy's "culture"? Clemmons is done under Dabo then if he won't be using the portal or NIL. Pretty hilarious that a coach making $11 million a year thinks that there is anything about college football is amateurism.

They don’t appreciate all the success that my assistant coaches and paid players brought! is how I read his whining. Now that his coaches are gone and they can’t pay players under the table we’re seeing his real value.

Clemson fans really shouldn't be critical given the past decade that Clemson has enjoyed. But yes, Clemson seems to be on a downswing a bit from those lofty heights now that the payments have moved from under the table to above it (and of course, no longer having a 1st round NFL QB on the roster).

If Dabo thought he had done a good job, he would never react like that. After he ran up the score on Tech and had his son throwing a 4th down 50-yard hail Mary pass in the last seconds of a game he was leading 57 to 6 or something in Atlanta, I said to Hell with him and Clemson. I decided I would pull against Clemson in every game they ever played in any sport after that, even if they were playing Georgia. Clemson began its epic decline right after that, and I have enjoyed every game they lost. I hope they never win again. I'm sure that fan was saying what many of their fans are thinking. The way Dabo handled it was text book stupid. He just told half their fans to go somewhere else. One day they will want all the fans they can get.

He failed last Saturday. I've watched him fail at Bobby Dodd, he's 3-3 there and doesn't even have a winning record on The Flats. Maybe that's a tie but it includes 3 fails. WTF is he talking about he's never failed?

yeah i didnt have too much issue with response till this part. not even on topic of question anymore, and hitting pride comes before the fall on the head. pure unfiltered arrogance not a good look. clemsum fans better buckle up.
and also, not saying i agree with NIL, but how can you in good conscience disagree with paying players making that kind of money straight off their back.

Yes, I absolutely do. It’s obviously one of many factors, but I believe it has been a differentiator between Clemson and other schools with similar resources. People on this board still call Dabo a clown, but he had an incredible run of sustained success that only Alabama and maybe Ohio State were able to match. Even with significant financial backing, that doesn’t happen unless you have built a program with a sustainable model.

And FWIW, I agree that Dabo’s run of success (at least at that high of a level) might be done, because his model doesn’t work so well in the NIL world. Culture is great, but it’s not going to outweigh money.

You're humble, you're hungry and everything, and I always told people, ‘Man Dabo, but listen to his press conferences.’ But after that 2018 National Title, something changed. And there seems to be a lot of arrogance that came in. There was a lot of friends and family. Three of the 10 on-the-field football coaches are external, experienced hires. Everyone else is an internal hire that had no experience before, or was a former player or friend.

And Dabo, a head coach with a zillion things on his mind, has all these random ass stats on his hip at the ready? No. Brent Key didn't even know we ran for over 300 yards the other day after the game, and he's the freaking head coach. Plant. I don't know what he was trying to prove, but it was a plant.

Also when there is a plant like this they usually take all kinds of calls afterwards of people falling all over themselves to defend the attacked party and tell Dabo how much they love him. I don’t think there was much of that, but there may be some of that next week after they play Notre Dame. Especially if they lose.

You’re probably right. The whole concept of call in shows where people complain about their team, coach, blah blah blah are a thing of the past for good reason.

I was at that game and it was really difficult to stay for the whole game, but what was just as bad was after it ended watching our players hugging the Clemson players and having their pictures taken with them. Get off the field immediately and into the locker room.
