David Cutcliffe - Really?

If we all know PJ, he'll hang 70 on 'um.... just because.

I hope we beat the brakes off of Duke. I hope it's so bad that the whole fourth quarter is nothing but backup players for GT.

First thing about cutting/chopping isn't all bad. In fact, it makes me more confident that he refuses to cut in practice even in prep for our game, because it means his guys aren't going to be used to beating the cut block.

Second thing is just the same old crap about how NFL players don't want to come to Tech.

Third thing, he flat lies about Calvin/Bebe would never come to GT. Calvin came to GT over UGA for academic reasons.

Not sure this is any more 'locker room material' than any of the things the media says. It's just the same old crap.

He was complimentary of our coaching. / shrug.

Apparently he ranked GT very high on his coaches poll.

David Cutcliffe lobbying for a job at Georgia Tech imo

I don't think it's fair to call that a flat out lie. I doubt Calvin still would have come here for academic reasons if we were running the option at the time. Academics were only part of the equation for him (albeit a bigger part than for most football players) and it's not like U[sic]GA is WVU or Louisville.

I'm not saying he wouldn't have excelled if he did decide to join up anyway, but I don't think he would have.

I think Calvin is on record saying he'd be happy to play in CPJ's offense.

Anyway, the second half of Cuttcliffe's presser was actually very complimentary.

Yes, what he said was what recruits here over and over and over again. I know many of you want to believe that this negative recruiting doesn't work, but it does, and it does on both sides of the ball.

And this of course is added to the negatives that have always been used against GT, like academic difficulty, calculus, dangerous location, lack of females, etc, etc, etc.

I agree.

But CPJ currently has himself the #19 rated recruiting class. I'll take that kind of class with CPJ's guidance All Day Long.

Just like how LeBron James is on record saying he'd have gone to OSU if he had one year of college.

It's really easy to say nice things about organizations and people you like when there's no actual commitment involved. I'll believe him more when we get another receiver close to his or Demaryius's level.

Every program in the country would like to sign receivers close to their level. The fact that most never do has nothing to do with the offense they run.

Duke is between us and a division title. All anyone should need.

You can't judge recruiting under our system purely on a negative basis and ignore the positives. Guys like JT5, Zenon, and walk-on Godhigh have productive roles in our offense that other programs can't utilize well or have to recruit to other positions. By the time JT5 is done at GT, there will be a lot of schools that wished they had him at QB.

Meh, a lot of bigcry in this thread. CPJ seems to get under other coaches skin and I really don't think it's his attitude or whatever. Maybe it's partly that the TO upsets the usual routine of their defense's practice.

But the real issue may just be that he's doing something so different from everybody else and not really part of the club of coaches. It reminds me of the David and Goliath article by Malcom Gladwell and a girls basketball team in California. Some coach knew that the team wouldn't be able to play straight up and so just conditioned the heck out of the team. Then he did full-court press all game. Other teams hated that team and eventually the officiating was so bad against them that he gave in and played straight up.

I do know Cutliffe was mostly complimentary in the press conference, but to even be that critical says we've gotten under their skin. The article from a few months ago with anonymous ACC coaches was even more critical of CPJ. It's hard to understand especially since a large number of offenses now are option-based.

We tried to give it to him after O'Leary, but he had some health issues.

Fascinating. I recall him being high on my list after my research showed he was clearly the brains behind Fulmer. He wouldve done very well here. Very well.

Interesting point. I wonder if there wasn't much of the same against Leach for his unconventional offense.

The day I get worked up about something Cutcliffe says about Tech is the day he can keep a game within 10 points of us.
