I'm beginning to think the truth is he did have this online friend, but he embellished the hell out of his relationship with "her" because of all the positive attention it got him, and also to mask the fact that his girlfriend was actually just some "girl" online. The answers he gave in the interview linked above seem genuine.

Still hilarious, don't feel sorry for his dumb ass. He should be happy that his girlfriend didn't actually die.

The moral of the story is an old one: That hot girl you met on the Internet is probably a dude.
