Dear God no…

The more I think about Key the more I’m in favor of hiring someone else. I appreciate what he’s done this year, but I honestly don’t think we would even be considering him if it wasn’t for Tech Man Syndrome.

Who then? Chadwell looks like another gimmick offense that just got figured out, and again with no defense. No thanks, we've done that too recently. Fritz is simply too old and doesn't excite anyone. BOB?, Alabama fans don't like him; but they also can't see that their defense is a bigger problem than the offense.

The next 3 years are going to be rough for whomever we hire with the roster that is being left.

I don’t know. But just because I don’t have the answer doesn’t mean that Key is the answer.

None of them are the type of change promised by Cabrera.
Cabrera really got alot of short-term credit for all the change and investment talk. If he doesn't follow-up then he's just digging himself a hole.

The toughest part of the coaching predictions is not knowing who's interested in us. The biggest mistake on ST imo is people assuming if someone isn't hired it's because we didn't ask. It may be that Chadwell didn't want to come. Same thing almost has to be the case with Deon, if we even asked. It maybe that Key or Fritz or someone like that are the only real options....

The type of change Cabrera was talking about doesn't happen all at once overnight when you're starting from a severely underfunded AD and an atrocious football program.

I think it will be three years before we know if he was completely for real. But firing Collins, getting Batt, and matching donations was certainly a good start even if we can't hit a home run with a coach hire right now.

Fritz has spent seven years at Tulane. For five of them, he had a losing conference record.

I don't understand hiring him over Key or BOB.
Because GTAA has a record of getting it wrong. And we’re supposed to be the smart ones.

I'm not surprised Fritz is getting a hard look. In the back of my mind I thought it was likely that he probably could end up at Tech, given his former experience with Southern and success at Tulane. We will see, but I think he is worthy of serious consideration. I think Key also should be given a serious look. Chadwell is a hot commodity now, so he will hold out for the best deal probably.

Success at Tulane? He was 41-45.

And they play in a worse conference than the ACC. Again, if this is the best that J Batt can do, the school whiffed on the AD hire.

Hiring a 62 year old with a meh coaching record isn’t going to last long nor excite any fans or recruits for that matter.

Just keep Key at this point.
Sounds like the best Batt could do said no. Plenty of rumors as to why. Depending on which ones are true, I could see Fritz happening instead of Key just to not be the booster pick, maybe from a mix of not wanting them running the show and spite.

Then J Batt won’t be here long then. Fritz having one good season out of 7 isn’t impressive. Just keep Key at this point and surround him with a good staff.

And it’s a better pick depending on how the contract works out.

I mean, that could be the case either way. Even if he concedes in this case, how long will he want to be here when isn't allowed to make decisions that make or break his job?

This season has been wildly successful for the Green Wave. It has been a rebuild to be sure. The cold hard numbers don't tell the whole story. He took over a successful program at Southern and had good success, expanding their offensive playbook while sticking with option concepts, including some triple option plays. I believe that they took UGA to overtime one year with Fritz as coach, though I may be wrong. He has recruited the state of Georgia, and I think it would be dumb to not consider the guy at least.

He has demonstrated growth as a head coach and has lots of good experience. If Tech wants to go with a spread offense, he is probably the guy they should go with of they don't get Chadwell.

My personal hope is that GTAA ponies up and pays him a nice salary to be offensive coordinator while keeping Key on as HC--maybe a Dabo/Venables type situation. It probably is a ridiculous idea, but I don't mind dreaming

It is an absolutely ridicuous idea. Yeah, an FBS HC coming off a 10-2 season is going to leave to be an OC at a crappy 5-7 BCS team.

Put down the crack pipe.

If you're going to dream about impossible things, dream that we hire Belichick away from the Patriots and his buddy Nick Satan agrees to come along as defensive coordinator. Same possibility of happening.

The reverse seems much more likely.
