Do you think a bigger stadium would increase the program's national awareness?

Well first off I know we do not sell out all our games with the current capacity we have now, so it probably doesn't make sense to expand it. If we did, however, increase the capacity from 55,000 to maybe 70,000 and also design it in such a way that it had amazing acoustics like VT's, maybe we'd be seen more as a legitimate big-time program. This could also help with recruiting and eventually fill more of the seats.

I'd love BDS to be known as a loud, intimidating place to play. :D

Just a thought.

Of course the funding is another issue. It would probably cost $75 Million to expand it.

I'm pretty sure we've got some big debts to pay off from the North End Zone. IF BDS@HGF was filled to the brim with Tech Fans it would provide a pretty intimidating sound and would look fantastic. We just need to start pulling in those "sidewalk" fans. Get them in a gold shirts and have them yell.
I believe 007's new schemes are going to add many new elements that are going to be exciting and will be extremely entertaing(i.e. Demariyus Thomas' pass play(If it worked)) and therefore will bring in new fans. You just gotta win for those fair-weather atlanta fans!

There would have to be a need for GT to expand. The best way to have a need is for GT to consistently win games. The best way to win games is to have a HC who can coach, teach, motivate, promote GT, & recruit young players as well as win the confidence of GT fan base. On top of that, GT would need to be competitive in the paying of the coach's salary.
I have been a supporter of CCG since he arrived and I will continue to be. At the same time, at his age I wonder just how long he expects to stay at GT. I do wish the GTAA would keep an eye out for a young man who would like a future at GT and understood what it would take for GT to be a consistent powerhouse. At present I don't see this happening anytime soon. I consider CCG to be a very good coach but not necessarily a good spokesman/promoter of GT. It's evident that he does NOT carry the support of the GT fanbase as he should. If anyone doubted that statement, all they would have to do is read Stingtalk.

If you remember, we used to have a south section that made a horseshoe and it was taken out to put in a building. This could also help with recruiting and eventually fill more of the seats.

Yessir, and I too. !!

A couple of thoughts:
1) GT has been much louder for opponents the past two years than in years past...particularly last year. We also tend to be much louder at night .

2) The reason VT is so loud is not so much the stadium design. It is because they are just another school that fills their stadium with rednecks from all over because there is absolutely nothing to do withing 2 hours any direction of Blacksburg, VA....so the mountain men grab their moonshine and head to the game!

First lets fill what we have with Tech Alumni and Friends. Let the other team stay home and watch on the tube.

If you build a bigger stadium you are just giving more room for the opposing teams fans to sit. I tend to agree with V on this one.

We do not need to get a bigger stadium until we can fill this one. Period.

I can tell you one thing, they are not even thinking about this and probably wont for 10 years or more. We as an athletic dept have a serious debt right now left by someone who will go unnamed. We need to see Bobby Dodd out everynight first before you can even think about that.

it would look worse when we played ugag, clemson or any of the football factories, we would lose what little home field advantage we now have. if you want to fill the stadium beat ugag and win a few championships.

How do you really feel? :laugher:

I took issue with the initial comment that suggests...

we are not considered a big-time football program. I beg to differ with that implication. Boise State seats 30,000 and is now a (albeit debatable) national power. Oregon seats 57,000 - no issues with stadium size and national recognition. GT Recruiting is at an all-time high with a nicely configured, extremely loud, 55,000 seat stadium. If you want to make a difference, get the lazy, complaining GT alums to decide to make a POSITVE difference in this world and to leave the trite, cynical, clinically depressed behavior behind. The personal growth rate of the GT alums appears to be quite suspect (in some cases) in my humble opinion.

I'd be happy to fill the seats we have.

Maybe if we just all get fatter, then we'll all have to buy two seats. They should give away hot dogs and funnel cakes at the games. Then we could sell 80,000 tickets to 40,000 folks.

I don't consider oregon or boise big-time programs.

Big-time: georgia, florida, ohio state, texas, usc, michigan, etc.

No. Stadium size means little. Winning means a lot.

Those teams also finish ranked every year and sell out their existing 85,000+ seat stadiums.

We do not finish ranked and do not sell out our 55,000 seat stadium.

So let's do that and pay for the existing one first.
